Comments Thread For: Shakeup: John Riel Casimero Gives Flyweight a Fresh Spark

By Cliff Rold - Every weight class gets its turn under the spotlight. For some, it's hard to turn the spotlight off. Try to find a lull period at welterweight that lasted more than a year in the last few decades. It might not always have the best fighters but it does often enough that it is hard to avert one's gaze. Heavyweight is always one new knockout artist away from being on fire.

I suspect John Riel Casimero, as great as his win was, will sort of trail off kind of like Sonny Boy Jaro did.

I love the idea. The winner of Chocolatito-Casimero versus the winner of Estrada-Nietes.....for all the marbles.

It makes too much sense, though. This being boxing that means it probably won't happen.

I was shocked at the Amnat KO, i didnt see him losing for sometime. Major upset by Casimero, hes asolid, solid foe for Gonzalez which is the reason HBO wont go for it. They aint trying to spoil that Estrada rematch which they push for immediately before it does get spoiled. Which is probably what will happen. Justhow boxing works now, if you follow the sport u shud know this

you do know casimero is a former jr flyweight world titlist right ? this kid is pretty good . was looking forward to seeing him vs arroyo for the eliminator but this is even a better win . arroyo will still be a good fight if no gonzo or estrada

The Flyweight division is constantly on fire. Sadly I don't see the Gonzalez vs Estrada rematch happening any time soon. Afterall Gonzalez is planning on moving up to 115 soon and he stated that there have been no serious talks with Estrada and his team, he also doesn't mind if the fight gets made or not before moving up.

Estrada has been sidelined due to a hand surgery and will be returning in the upcoming months between July to September after damn near a year layoff. However if he gets back and shakes the ring rust off promptly and Nietes gets past Moises Fuentes in September as well, there has been a lot of talks since March to pit Nietes vs Estrada either later this year or in 2017 and I can't wait for it to materialize. Nietes has been on a roll against Mexican fighters including two quality names in Fuentes and Rodriguez Jr recently and Estrada has beaten several Pinoy fighters as well. Good match up and apparently Nietes' promoter have had several talks with Zanfer and they are trying to get HBO involved as well.

I would love to see Casimero vs Arroyo or Ioka and then face off against Estrada or Choco if he's still around. Some excellent fights are heating up in the division.
