Pointless fight if I'm GGG. Tough fighter, no fanbase, comes from a lower weight. It's a lose-lose fight. The fight will do mediocre business, Lara will likely fight a very defensive, high movement spoiler type fight. If Golovkin knocks him out the narrative will be "GGG knocked out a little guy after dragging him up in weight!" and he will get no credit from fans, and if the outcome is anything else the narrative will be "GGG isn't that great of a fighter, look how Lara was able to move and pot shot agaisnt him for 12 rounds!" even if GGG wins the decision.

The problem is, you see the bold as a reason not to fight..... and yet I see it as a reason why they must fight.

You basically just stated that Golovkin should avoid Lara because of his difficult style..... which is exactly what they did.

If Golovkin cannot deal with Lara because of his difficult style, then he can forget about ever mentioning Ward's name again.

But doesn't that mean that Gennady is not this avoided killer like people make out? It means that there are guys who want to fight him, but Golovkin is only fighting the opponents who he wants to fight...... just like everyone else.

He is obviously subject to the exact same risk/reward decisions as every other fighter..... so the excuses for his resume need to stop.

Lara and Ward would present different problems for Golovkin. The former is more of a pure boxer who moves a lot. Aside from having a size advantage, Ward has a very high ring IQ; he's more similar to Bhop as a get-it-done fighter.

That said, in the current circumstances, I think Ward-Golovkin has zero chance of happening. Lara-Golovkin is more feasible but Lara will have to queue up.

If the talk is "Golovkin looked bad chasing a guy for 12 rounds" then he takes a hit from all the casual fans who turned in to see this monster pursue a runner around the ring. If the talk is "Golovkin tore through a super welterweight who was no match for his power and size" then GGG and team wasted 3 months training for and beating up someone that diminished his respect and reputation among boxing fans.

Frankly I feel Lara is a huge underdog and that most other fans feel the same way in any case. As a hardcore fan I would like to see the fight but it wouldn't be something I would be more excited about than say if GGG were to fight Eubank Jr.

Sorry but, you basically just stated that Golovkin should not fight lara because he is a risky opponent..... and yet, that is EXACTLY why I think he should fight him.

That is why Canelo fought Lara, against the wishes of his promoter.
