Honestly the more I actually think about this the less far fetched 180k sounds. I mean work out the math just with the likely purses along with this time in Canelo's career. They definitely had him fighting some solid opponents around this time if you look at Canelo's record. He was headlining or co-headlining all these club fights to TV caliber cards.

I could easily see those purses in the $10k+ region per fight that could end up being $180k total for 9 fights. And there could have been other expenses like I mentioned with some monthly stipend that isn't unusual for prospects. Do the math. If we assume the purse average was ~$17k for those 9 fights + they gave him a 2k monthly stipend that covers the 180k over those 13 months.

Yeah, I guess the math does check out?? I figured the most he was getting Was 2k a fight. But if he was headlining them and TV caliber cards I could see that much being spent? But if he was worth that much why wait two years to sue and get your money back? Isn't there like a statue of limitations on that?

Plus how does it work going over other borders??? If he was a resident of Mexico and all that? Also if he didn't have an attorney could he get out of signing a 4 year contract when you barely turn 18?? Seems a little harsh with all the sharks out there ...I had a buddy get a 2nd DUI turned into a first because he didn't have legal council on the 1st.

In the end it going to probably go down to who has better attorneys then who's right.

It really doesnt matter so much where Alvarez was a resident or citizen as much as where the contract was originated. I believe All Star boxing is based out of FL, and therefore FL law would have jurisdiction. Canelo could possibly argue Mexican jurisdiction if (hypothetically) the contract was faxed to Mexico and signed in Mexico (or some other location).

As far as your friend and his DUI, the issue there is the Constitutional provision of council. This protection only applies when jeopardy is attached (Baldwin v NY) Such protection is not afforded in contract law.

Canelo and GBP need to show some compelling reason for termination of contract, such as an aggregious breach of contract. I would ask anyone that thinks this will be easy for Canelo to just look at how long Andre Ward had to battle in court to be released from Goosen

Is your father a black attorney or a Mexican one?

Yes. It would be quite a legal quagmire if Canelo were to sign a fight with another fighter under the GBP banner and have the jury determine his contract with GBP is null and void. The fight couldn't happen and the other fighter could possibly sue one or both GBP and Canelo.

                      Thanks for clearing that up.

So I guess this would partially explain the lack of info we're hearing on him vs anyone and why he'd vacate. Shi tty timing..vacates and cant negotiate a fight to save face. Ouch.
