    Boxing rules/refs pet peeves

Post some of your pet peeves, grievances, complaints of refs and how they administer the rules.

One of my biggest pet peeves (that I see week after week) is refs warning fighters for low blows for punches that land on the belt-line. Frequently you see refs giving instructions, looking at where the fighter's trunks are pulled up to and then stating something like "OK, punches here (indicates on beltline) are OK, anything below is a low blow."

Then as the fight proceeds a fighter may land a punch on the beltline and said fighter is then warned. It's completely unfair and especially so, when fighter's pull their trunks up past their belly buttons.

Biggest pet peeve are Refs who allow repetitive clinching.

And refs who are quick to stop a fight, I mean they are already itching to jump in there that must make it nerve wrecking for the fighter who is trying to make a comeback he has to worry about this ref with the quick trigger finger who is right a few feet away and is twitching to jump in once the first clean blow lands.

Excessive holding by a guy when he's hurt or after getting dropped. I'd like to see holding in general stopped as I think it slows down the action & adds lil to nothing to a fight. But I'd really like to see points taken when excessive holding is going on after a KD or when a guy is hurt. I'd like to see more 10-7 1 KD rounds cuz of the **** that goes on.

I'd also like to see instant replay to better narrate what happened in the ring. I hate the "if the ref didn't see it" angle sports often have. I don't think it should be on the ref to see everything, but I also don't think we pretend we don't have superior technology that can see everything. And that that technology can allow us to correct things that were incorrectly called or not called at all.

With lowblows I suspect there is the ability to throw a microchip on the cup &/or trunks at the low blow level right now (or soon if not right now) that could indicate a punch landed low. As long as its verifiable the punch was from the opponent & not the guy tapping his own balls to try to get a point that could cut out all the bs with a ref calling it &/or seeing it.

I saw that during Lemieux's last fight. The ref kept warning lemieux for hitting low, and he was not even hitting low as far as I could tell.

the worst officiating by a ref was the biased Ref in the Rocky Juarez vs Zahir Raheem fight, Raheem wasn't even fighting dirty and this ref kept warning him saying he was hitting the back of the head, it was a hometown ref in Texas trying to give favor to Rocky Juarez.

Refs rushing to break up clinches, rather than trying to let the fighters fight it out on the inside. It often bothers me because it disrupts the game flow a lot and it's great to see someone actually fight off a clinch going to the body or using a wicked uppercut or what not.

By far the biggest problem in the sport is refs letting fighters get away with holding. So many fighters can't exchange in the pocket these days and just grab their opponent instead. And time after time their lack of skill gets rewarded. It's massively annoying to watch.

I agree completely. If you got one arm free keep swinging, or fight through the clinch. Many ref's need to yell, fight out of it, or stop holding! Ref's that don't take controll ruin fights. You gotta and allow guys to fight! Let them fight out of clinches, this will highlight who is clinching and who isn't. I miss Mills Lane.

This one of my other big pet peeves. I see a lot of refs instinctively intervene and break the fighters' clinch, even if they have hands free. The ref should instruct the fighters to fight their way out as do some refs.

Yes, this was the breaking point for me. Drakulich was warning Vanes throughout the fight for nonexistent low blows. In his instructions, he said that the fighters could punch on the beltline. This happens very frequently and it drives me nuts.
