****ing bum, and I am PRican btw. This kid has NO heart. You can already tell he will quit as soon as he faces a C level fighter with power.

I can't root against him. I think he's good for boxing. He brings the PR fanbase and that will be a big fight for my boy Loma in the future, so obviously I want him to do good.
Right now I think Verdejo vs. Neno is 50/50, I slightly favor Rodriguez. I actually see more flaws in Neno than Verdejo. But Rodriguez brings it and he's not scared. That along with the fact that he punches very hard is going to be difficult for anyone to deal with. Verdejo didn't seem too comfortable with the pressure his last opponent brought; that's why I slight favor Rodriguez right now. We will get a better idea once they start stepping up against better opponents though. It will be an interesting fight don't you agree? If you're a Rodriguez fan you should be rooting for Verdejo to do good, because that will be a big fight for him.
Don't you want to see Verdejo vs. Rodriguez, Loma and Oscar Valdez? Even Nicholas Walters can get in the mix. Do those fights not interest you? They interest me a lot and that's why I don't want Verdejo to fail. I really want to watch all of these guys fight with each other.

You really think he beats him easily? Hmm...I'm curious to see how Vargas is after that brutal fight against Miura. He may never be the same again. Fighters react different. Some fighters are done after one brutal fight and other fighters seem to be able to get into a few more wars before they're done.

There really isn't an easy World title at 130; probably one of the toughest divisions to get a title in at the moment. Pedraza is looking to move up soon though. Verdejo should try to get a shot at that vacant belt. That would be the easiest title shot at the weight. I seriously doubt they're going to match Verdejo against Lomachenko, if Loma beats Martinez of course, this early. I don't even think the fight would make sense right now.
I wonder how else they would get him the title shot. I wonder if they would let Verdejo fight Pedraza or Vargas. Or Fortuna or Corrales.

It's disappointing who he is fighting on June 11. It seems like they lost a lot of confidence on the kid.
I used to talk all kinds of crap about Verdejo saying how he was overrated and what not, but I've been defending him as of late.
Hopefully everything goes well for him on June 11, if he fails to impress that definitely won't be very good for his career.
I don't even think he looked bad against Silva tbh. I just saw a young fighter with a lot to improve, but that's the case for every fighter early in their career. It's a shame Jose Felix Jr. didn't accept the fight. That would have been a good test.
It wasn't the performance against Silva thats raising alarms. Its the fight afterwards.
And that Felix jr. fight was done. Felix had already said he was looking forward to it. In the rbr at b*xingnews24(reading it while watching the fight in between rounds), someone said as the fight ended that he was hearing that the Felix jr. fight was about to be cancelled and that someone less dangerous would be chosen instead.

lo and behold, about a day later, thay come out saying the fights off and that "Felix jr. priced himself out".
I dont buy that for a second. I remember Felix jr. being interviewed and being excited and looking forwarding to fighting Verdejo. You would think after seeing that performance he would want the fight even more.
Pretty sure we all know what happened

Yeah, I'm aware it was the fight afterwards, but people were already talking after the Silva fight.
I don't know if Felix Jr. priced himself out or not, but if he did then he's dumb. This would have been the perfect time to catch Verdejo. This is Verdejo's most vulnerable moment.
Maybe Top Rank offered Felix Jr. a little bit of money so he won't accept it and they could blame it on Jose. Who knows? Maybe Felix Jr. should comment on what happened. Or maybe he'll get cut for saying something.
It is telling how much confidence they have lost in Verdejo though. I mean Juan Jose Martinez is a joke. If Verdejo fails to impress in this fight then we may be seeing the end. He can always bounce back I guess.
I can't root against Verdejo though. He could make some big fights at these weight classes. I want to see Verdejo, Lomachenko, Valdez, Walters, Rodriguez get matched against each other in the near future. And Verdejo is the one bringing the most attention, so I really can't root against him.

Weird move. He looks to be a big LW. Huge shoulders and is what 5'9? That's not a good sign to me. Looks like he doesn't have complete belief in himself.

Following that fight and getting popped for PEDs. I think he would be in trouble if Verdejo can rehydrate right

Not sure if he can really make 130 and not be a weight drained zombie..

Some big fights for him if he can

                  Salido
                  Lomachenko
                  Walters

I don't know if he is having hand problems or if Puerto Rico's economic situation is affecting him or what. But he has not impressed at all in his last few outings.

This article makes it seem like it was pretty much already in place.
Arum says Verdejo would be fighting Felix jr. on the Lomachenko-Martinez card as the co-main.
I would think that him pricing himself woud be even less likely after his last performance so it just seems like something is not right here.
Especially after what happened after his last fight, like the performance caught them by surprise and shouldn't have made plans ahead of time before seeing how he looked before that.

I thought Verdejo would've beaten Felix jr. even if he struggled a bit, but the last thing you want to do is send your highly touted prospect into a fight you're not feeling confident about.
