So, it isn't all bad, but it could be better. I know the WBA is trying to unify their cruiserweight belts which is ridiculous but at least a step in the right direction. My guess is the money has dried up on those add-on titles. Either way, a few good things are happening.
Me too man, me too. If there's any one thing I could change about boxing it would definitely be re-implementing the old school division/champion situation. It would be so refreshing to be able to easily reel off a short and easy list of each divisional champion rather than have to check each organisations rankings and then compare them to the general consensus* so we can see who 'appears' to be or should be the man. I get what you mean, some divisions have champions in them that are clearly the king, but the water is still cloudy and it always will be unless the sport rids itself of its excess of titles.

*Personally I like to go off the Transnational Boxing Board for actual rankings, and then out of interest run quick checks on who else in the ranks of each division has title claims other than 'THE' champion listed. Doesn't solve any title claim confusions by an stretch, but it helps keep track of who should be where.

Oh I want the titles gone. Believe me. Golovkin, Fury, Kovalev and Lebedev have their share, but I'd love to see a tournament in each of the old school divisions to determine who really is the champion. It comes down to a basic rule. If people aren't getting the best against the best, they tend to tune out. This is why we occasionally see unification fights and fights that we never thought we would- out of necessity. It's kind of like in a booming economy, you can get away with a hell of a lot. However, given the current state, I know the purses and earnings is most likely getting smaller and the powers that be do share a common interest- money. So they'll put beefs aside to make certain fights.

My main complaint is that they often treat fans like dogs begging for dinner scraps and tossing us a bone now and then rather than enthusiastically trying to put these fights together all of the time. Maybe at some point, at least one or two of the organizations will dry up, but we have a long road I believe. Even the spurious WBF, IBA and IBC from the 90s are actually still in business. No one cares and you've never heard of their champions but still they cling to life. I really don't get it, but it shows how hard it is to get rid of them once they're established. I'm really hoping they don't push the IBO anymore than they have. With 5 recognized titles, sorry, but something has to give in a big way. They're asking too much of the fans. In any other sport, you get one champion. Boxing doesn't have to be any different as was demonstrated in past, more respectable eras. We'll have no golden ages again with 70 belts floating around.

I think a lot of people are trying to force GGG into certain fights at the wrong time of his choosing. Canelo just dropped the belt so he doesn't have to fight at a certain weight imo its a smart move on Canelo. This way if GGG wants that big PPV fight with Canelo hes gonna have to fight on Canelos term. Hes taking off on that fight and will slowly move up for GGG.
This is bad for GGG because now,it gives him two choices. Its pushes him closer to getting to that Andre ward fight that he has to move UP in weight for or continue fighting at the weight he is now. Problem is he dominated everyone in there no one else to fight.
