dropped the wbc belt to keep his options open. since mayweather is rumored of a returned 50th fight. why not drop and cash in again.

This fight was a couple of days away from going to purse bid, which per the WBC rules states a 55/45 split.

Golovkin is not getting anything close to 45%,.
Stop just stop your making assumptions based on assumptions. The only fact we know is Canelo vacated, which any objective boxing fan will tell you is a ***** move.

I said it 4 months ago.

Canelo gets too much credit for fighting the Trouts, Lara of the world.
Yes he fought them, but it's a easy thing when neither guy has Knockout power and you know your promoter has judges in his pocket, so all you have to do it last 12 and you will automatically win on the score cards.

        It's ANOTHER THING

To get in the ring with someone who is more than likely gonna put you to sleep, no robbery, no funny score cards, no disputes.

although Trout and Lara couldve gooten the decisions, they were both close fights that couldve went either way. neither was a robbery imo.

that said, this isnt a good sign that the GGG fight takes place in Sept. They may have done this to avoid purse bid bc we know GGG isnt getting (or deserves) close to 45%.
But, although its not a big deal, I would think the fight being a unification would add at least something. we'll see

The fact is..... according to Team Bull****, Golovkin could have fought Ward, Mora, Lara, Canelo, Cotto..... but he CHOSE not to.

He blatantly ducked Ward/Lara, and he ducked Mora back in 2013 before Sergio lost to Jacobs.

An ex-champ who has clearly faded is the perfect opponent for an upcoming fighter who is trying to establish himself..... and Golovkin has certainly fought far worse..... they used every excuse in the book to duck Mora, just like they did with Ward and Lara.
If GGG didn't fight Lemiuex in October, would you have said that GGG ducked him too?

What I don't hear people saying...

THIS is why I hate the multiple titles situ in boxing. IMO every weight class need 1 champion and 1 belt. Fighters don't respect the belts enough with so many different organizations belts plus the different versions of those belts. There is a reason GGG won't go up and fight Ward, because there are so many changing of Champs and belts getting dropped that it keeps GGG busy chasing em and fighting mediocre talent at MW in an attempt to unify the majors. If there was one belt GGG would be clear MW champ and Canelo would have no choice but to fight at 160 for that belt. Or he would have to kill himself to make Jr Mid/Super Welter. Either that or he would not become a champion and I bet if there was only 1 prestigious belt Canelo would not talk about not needing the belt and only fighting for the fans blah blah.

trolling at its finest. someone actually posted that GGG ducked Mora. Im literally laughing out loud. GGG couldve fought Lara, but its not a duck if a fighter isnt even in your weight class. thats like saying Mayweather ducked GGG- ridiculous.

GGG has wanted Sturm, Martinez, Cotto and Canelo. His resume isnt the greatest, but its nit terrible either. similar to B-hops was bf he fought Trinidad. anyone that thInks GGG has ducked fighters at 160 really hasnt been paying attention to the sport of boxing
