Ward is the most talented fighter in the sport but his competition the last few years does not merit him the P4P crown. I'd place quite few little fellas above him for that spot right now including Rigo and Chocolatito because they've been active even if their competition can be argued as mediocre too.

How has he squandered his career? He did what a man is supposed to do. If you dont like your current situation, you change it. He wanted out of his contract with goosen and he was willing to sit out until it happened. That's what men do. Stand on what they believe in regardless if it's the popular thing to do or not. He got his wish.

now he is with roc nation who is paying him more than he was gonna make with goosen tutor and he is about to fight the toughest fight possible.

People don't hate ward cause he sat out for 2 yrs. They hate ward because he is a threat to their favorite fighters

Kovalev will be fighting again in July. He won't be fighting Andre Ward.

The winner of this fight will be the clear pfp#1. Right now its up for grabs.

Ward has great accomplishments but they all took place many years ago, while Kov has been on a streak steamrolling everyone in his path as of late.

That was most definitely not the most talented fighter in the sport in there with Barrera.

And that's just my honest opinion on what I saw.

I don't see Ward being #1 P4P. P4P has 2 criteria - resume and skill displayed.

He hasn't done anything recently to deserve it. His last good win was either 4 years ago (Dawson), or IMO 4.5 years ago (Froch) because Dawson was severely drained.
Since then, he has a win against a contender 3 years ago, an absolute bum (Smith), and an up and comer (Barrera). If he looked awesome against Barrera, he may get consideration, but he didn't.

The other criteria is the skill displayed. While he did win easily against Barrera, I didn't see the same level of skill he used to display. His timing was off and his defense was a step too slow, even against someone as slow as Barrera.

I think the ward/kov winner should be ranked #1 p4p. I think Ward is the most skilled boxer in the world. I look forward to seeing if that skill can best Kov's power and size advantage.

Did you fully read my post, I called him "the most talented fighter in the sport". I'm saying look at his boxrec since the Super 6 til now. I can't give you #1 p4p just based off your talent when you had better fight options out there during those years.

so people "hate " him because he wanted to control his own career? Its messed up but seems thats way.

you are right, a man stands by what they believe in, even if it affects their earnings. Thats a real man and we need more people who will take a stand

as far as what I bolded, that statment couldnt be anymore true!!! he is a threat to everyones favorite fighter 160-175 and the GGG fans are happy it didnt happen. Who really thinks GGG could beat Ward anyway? Its more wanting to see him lose than actually believing certain fighters can beat him. Outside of Kov, there isnt anyone with a remote chance. Maybe Stevenson with his one punch power and underrated skills. Either way he is a threat and it makes it worse for them that he isnt a prick so they look foolish criticizing the guy
