Both are trained by roach. At least as I recall.

I always thought, in the past, that Cotto would just move on with his career, if he felt robbed in the eventual Canelo outcome; now, it actually happened, and he looks to be doing just what I thought he would do.

The reason this fight's better than fighting Canelo is because both Cotto and Marquez are legendary counter-punchers, when they want to be. Canelo can be a good counter-puncher himself, but Cotto was levels above him in that department, as the fight showed. People can say Canelo "won" the decision, but I don't think anyone can deny Cotto won the boxing match.

Imagine Cotto and Marquez trying to outsmart each other; there's just so many variables to it. And the big selling point is that, since both are lethal punchers, one mistake could leave either man in serious trouble. A war would begin. It has classic written all over it.

Essentially, this is an all-action match in which even the counter-punching portions will be filled with excitement. I can't see this ending in any other way besides a knockout, and fans will be analyzing the vast array of tactics used by both fighters for years to come.

      Bring on "The Legacy!"

You left out the part where marquez is 50 yrs old coming off of a 2 yr layoff and fighting at a weight he's never fought at.

      no thank you.

154 is loaded with young lions, that Cotto cant beat.

So why not fight a smaller man right?

And Bad knees. That fight is not happening. Cotto will want the biggest money, And Roc Nation wants a return on the investment they put in for Cotto. Marquez fight does not sell at all. If they put it on PPV it does 100k. That is not a good fight at all mismatch.

Marquez isn't 50 years old--he's 42. And, as self-care stand-outs like Hopkins will show, an athlete's career (in good competitive condition) can last a lot longer in modern times. It used to be the case that a fighter reached 35, and his career was practically over. Nowadays, even our best pound-for-pound fighter (Floyd Mayweather) is 39 going on 40. So, not for one second do I buy that as an excuse to avoid the fight. And, you forget that Cotto will be going into that fight with a year layoff as well. It's about as even as everything can get, given the circumstances of Marquez's healing.

Young lions? Didn't you see the Canelo fight? How much younger does a top lion get? And Cotto still performed extremely well. Are you saying that they're better than Canelo? Because if they aren't, then you know what's going to happen.

And forget about weight. Cotto just got back from being the king of the middleweight division. And he wasn't even a middleweight. Is this a joke? If anything, Cotto has been fighting much bigger men for a while now. To act like all of a sudden he wants to cherry-pick smaller fighters is laughable. Marquez has bulked up into a solid 147-pounder. Both fighters would give up a few pounds, and it's an even match. This is about the quality of the fight, not weight.

In any case, Cotto's beyond fighting young, unknown guys. He's a legend. And he wants to fight legend-level fights. Marquez wants to fight another legend, as well. He said so himself. I say we make it!

              • Would be so pathetic if it would be Canelo again and, as Fat Dan reported a week ago that they were already negotiating and agreeing to make the fight in September.
