I think that fight is the exact opposite to ******, it's actually the smartest one he can make at this point, AT 160 FOR REAL, because:
    1. He will GAIN the respect of most real boxing fans, by defending the belt for the 1st time at the real weight limit, 160, vs. a real middleweight contender, Lemieux who actually hits similarly hard as GGG, but is just way more one-dimensional and has zero defense.
    2. He won't lose the belt, if him and GGG agree to a step-aside fee for GGG, with a written contract promise that, if Canelo defeats Lemieux at 160, then his next fight will be with GGG at 160 as well.
    3. I really think this fight could actually do better than the fight with Khan in PPV buys (again, only if it takes place at 160, as it should be), because it wouldn't be a mismatch, it could actually potentially be the fight of the year because two hard-punchers who never back down or run like cowards like the likes of Lara, etc. will get at it and it would be an all-action fight for sure.
    4. That real risk of losing is what would make this particular fight vs. Lemieux at 160, a very interesting and attractive fight, for both the casual and the so called "real" boxing fans. Canelo and his team KNOW perfectly well that he is not ready to face GGG at 160 before fighting a real middleweight contender before GGG, no way. He needs at the very least one preparation fight at 160, and what better than a fighter with the style Canelo likes best, a go-forward one-dimensional hard puncher? He did GREAT vs. Angulo, which is a guy very similar in style than Lemieux, only slower, but still, Canelo is faster than Lemieux anyways. If he defeats Lemieux as convincingly as GGG did, then all boxing fans will be in for a treat next.

Summarizing, I believe the very best next fight fight for Canelo is exactly that one, vs. Lemieux at 160 and if he beats him up like he did Angulo, THEN he will be ready to give GGG more than a run for his money.

Can't really add more to that. You summed it up perfectly. I still want to see Canelo vs. GGG but this would give us a good comparison. And who wouldn't want to see two guys who don't like to go backwards... I wouldn't mind Canelo getting Saunders belt either and then ALL the belts are put on the line at 160.

I don't think the kid knows any better, I honestly believe he cuts and pastes the exact same response in every Golovkin thread. I can't wait to see his response when GGG is the P4P king, which most in the sport believe anyway.

Canelo might as well fight Golovkin instead of Lemieux as the latter could possibly KO Canelo which would ruin his chance at a super fight. I think the fight will be GGG vs Canelo on the 17th of Sept in Vegas or Dallas

The smartest move Canelo can make is accept to fight GGG at 160 for the belt. The purse bid is May 24...if it gets to a purse bid, then the fight is definitely happening. The only way a Lemieux fight with Canelo can happen would be by Canelo vacating the title to avoid the purse bid. At that point, a fight with Lemieux won't involve a belt. At 160 is definitely what fans want to see Canelo fighting at. However, fans will be severely disappointed in Canelo if he fights anyone but GGG. Hard to ignore that part. You make all good points on why Canelo fighting Lemieux is a good bout...but it's not the best bout to be made. Canelo & GGG are clearly 1 & 2 at MW...& the fight is ripe right now. A great disservice to the fans if Canelo doesn't fight GGG at 160.

And why is that? So he can continue to weigh in at around 180 lbs when he steps into the ring like he usually does? BS , Canelo needs to fight GGG and quit delaying the inevitable ass whippin that's coming for him

(Amusingly, after the dates were set and confirmed, only then did Lara tweet something along the lines of "Aw shucks, I'm always ready for a Golovkin fight, fight me you duck" despite being silent before all of it.)

This voluntary fight would have been a perfect opportunity for Canelo to negotiate a fight with Lemieux or Jacobs, or even Quillen, Lee, Geale, N'dam if he wanted less of a challenge. Lemieux or Geale would have been best, because GGG fought them so the camp's could compare their chances. This would have been a rational thing to do if Canelo was serious about fighting GGG.

Instead, he arranged for the notoriously glass-chinned Khan who struggled with power at 147 to move up to 155. He's fighting a welterweight. It's his own fault, I have no sympathy for Canelo, he had his chance to fight against a legit MW and blew it.

Anyway, he's the supposed MW champion. Surely the MW champion doesn't need to get used to the MW weight, and MW fighters? He's the big scary man who fought and best the previous man. Just kidding, we all know Golovkin is de facto the head of the MW division.

Well, I hope Golovkin doesnt agree to anymore step asides. I mean damn its long past time for this to go down. Make the WBC keep their rules and strip the chicken shiet red head. Id love to see Lemule sleep his ass Julian Jackson/Terry Norris style but Im sure Lemule will walk into counters all night.
