Povetkin never wanted to fight Wilder.

    6/11/15
After Bermane Stiverne of Canada won the vacant WBC heavyweight title, he was required by the WBC rules to make two mandatory title defenses. The first, against No. 1 ranked Deontay Wilder of the United States, was held on January 17. Wilder won the title by unanimous decision over twelve. The second mandatory challenger was Bryant Jennings, but he took another fight instead against Wladimir Klitschko, so the WBC approved a final eliminator between No. 2 ranked Alexander Povetkin of Russia and No. 4 ranked Mike Perez of Cuba/Ireland to determine the second mandatory challenger.

On May 22nd Povetkin beat Perez to become Wilder's mandatory challenger for the WBC belt. Three weeks after the fight the WBC announced that negotiations were to begin in October and expected the fight to take place in January. Two days later Wilder beats Molina

    7/14/16
The World Boxing Council is anticipating that Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33KOs) will make the first mandatory defense of his title against Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21 KOs) of Russia in the first quarter of 2016. Negotiations are going to be ordered around the month of October. If the two sides are unable to reach an agreement, a purse bid is likely for November. Wilder made a voluntary defense last month when he knocked out Eric Molina in nine rounds. Povetkin became the mandatory challenger when he knocked out Mike Perez in one round, on May 22nd.

A month later the WBC reiterated this point. Negotiations must take place in October. If they come to an agreement a purse bid will be held in November and the fight in January. At this time Povetkin said he might take a break from boxing and wait for the negotiation period.

Opponents were announced for the stellar ledger of the World of Boxing fight card on November 4 in Kazan, Russia. WBC/TBRB #1 rated heavyweight Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21 KOs), a mandatory challenger for the WBC heavyweight title, will look to stay in a tip-top shape against rock-hard Pole Mariusz Wach (31-1, 17 KOs). Povetkin is coming off the first-round TKO over Mike Perez in the final eliminator this May. WBC #13 Wach’s only loss came against Wladimir Klitschko on a one-sided unanimous decision in November 2012. The Polish fighter is 4-0, 2 KOs, since that loss and an almost two-year long PED-induced layoff after that. He defeated Konstantin Airich and Gbenga Oloukun in 2015.

On August 12th, with negotiations set to begin in October, Povetkin announces a fight with Wach. Scheduled for November 4th

    8/20/15
French heavyweight Johann Duhaupas (32-2) has officially pulled out of the scheduled fight for the vacant EU title on October 10 in Barcelona against Hungarian Zsolt Bogdan (10-0) and thus misses out on a 5,000 Euro payday. However, the reason he has done so is because Johann got a bigger fish in sight for a few dollars more. Jokes aside, Duhaupas will face Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33KOs) for the WBC heavyweight title on September 26th in the champion's backyard of Birmingham, Alabama. The fight will be televised on NBC as part of a Premier Boxing Champions card.

A week later Wilder schedules a fight with Duhaupas. Scheduled for September 26th

    8/23/15
WBC/TBRB #1 rated heavyweight Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21 KOs) faces WBC #13 Polish battler Mariusz Wach (31-1, 17 KOs) on November 4 in Kazan, Russia, but there’s another boxer that he wished to fight on the same date instead of Wach. Povetkin is the mandatory challenger to WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, who returns on September 26th against French contender Johann Duhaupas.

A week after he schedules his fight with Wach, and three days after Wilder schedules his fight with Duhaupas, Povetkin said he's wants Wilder now and he's disappointed the fight is subject to rescheduling. The negotiations were pushed back from October because Povetkin scheduled a fight for November Povetkin's promoter said the Wach fight was to get Povetkin ready for Wilder http://www.boxingscene.com/promoter-...-wilder--94997

    11/4/15
For WBC heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder - the No. 1 ranked mandatory challenger is Alexander Povetkin of Russia, who also holds the WBC Silver title, and is scheduled to fight Mariusz Wach tonight in Kazan, Russia. A representative for Povetkin came over to the WBC's ongoing convention in China and told the assembly today that Povetkin will not be ready for his mandatory title challenge in January, when it’s due.

On the night of the Povetkin fight a representative from Povetkin's camp informed the WBC that he won't be ready for the fight in January. He'll be ready around April or May. The WBC approved another voluntary for Wilder in January, the time Wilder/Povetkin fight was to take place originally stated back in June.

    11/9/15
Andrei Ryabińsky, who promotes Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs), is going to do everything possible to secure his fighter the mandatory shot against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs). The World Boxing Council ordered the fight at their recent convention. They approved Wilder's request to have a third voluntary fight on January 16th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Five days after telling the WBC Povetkin won't be ready until April or May, Povetkin's promoter comes out and claims Wilder is ducking Povetkin because he as granted another voluntary in January. The original date Povetkin and Wilder were supposed to fight! He also pushes the date back from April or May to "summertime".

    11/17/2015
According to Ivan Kirpa, trainer for Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin (30-1, 22KOs), his fighter is ready - right now - to face WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (36-0, 34KOs). Povetkin was back on November 4th when he stopped Polish giant Mariusz Wach in the twelfth round of their bout in Kazan. Wilder is set to make a voluntary defense on January 16th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The opponent could very well be IBF mandatory challenger Czar Glazkov.

Thirteen days after telling the WBC they won't be ready for the January fight, and the WBC granting Wilder another voluntary, Povetkin's trainer comes out and said that they're ready for Wilder NOW!!!

This wasn't the first time Povetkin delayed a heavyweight championship fight. He delayed the fight against Klitschko TWICE

Povetkin Pulls Out, Wladimir Klitschko to Rematch Sam Peter

The news broke yesterday on ESPN that Povetkin is withdrawing from the WBO and IBF title bout due unresolved contract disputes. The rumors of issues began last week when Povetkin, who is training in New Jersey with Teddy Atlas, failed to make the trip overseas Germany to attend a Monday (July 19) press conference with Klitschko. The fight was scheduled for September 11.

This is Povetkin’s second pullout. In 2008, he withdrew from a Klitschko fight after suffering an ankle injury. Povetkin has been the #1 and mandatory challenger for Klitschko since that time.
One of the issues is allegedly Klitschko’s refusal to provide insurance for Povetkin in the contract. Povetkin’s promoter Wilfried Sauerland didn’t elaborate on this, but cryptica…

Even after he finally agreed to face Wilder he still delayed the fight because Povetkin didn't want VADA testing

Talk about anything boxing related here. Where the boxing discussion is always Non Stop!

Then he turns around and pisses hot by knowingly taking a banned substance. This guy never wanted to fight Wilder

So now the WBC is forced to cancel the fight.

How can you look at his actions and take into his history of delaying fights into account, and say he wanted to fight Wilder? Does this look like the actions of a man who wanted to fight?

Funny how people thought Wilder would avoid going to Russia and was ducking Povetkin.

When in actuality, Povetkin didn't have enough confidence to beat Wilder without PEDs. Povetkin is the actual duck. Hometown advantage wasn't enough for him.

Remove him from the rankings and give Pulev his opportunity.

Yeah, Wilder strikes fear into his opponents. Povetkin got no confidence for this fight. It seemed too good to be true.

lol what a load of nonsense, Haymon along with the WBC have been putting this back for the longest time and we only ever heard their side of it.

Same with the Adonis Stevenson WBC mandatory, they will have gone a full 3 years without fighting a mandatory and it's still not being made.

Povetkin failed a drugs test, but let's not act like Wilder beat him, he didn't. He is living on borrowed time, just a belt-holder.

It's moot anyway. The fight wasn't canceled, it was postponed. We will still see the fight as we rightfully should.

As long as Wilder is game - and he needs this fight - let there be fireworks.

You're giving your opinion. I gave links to stories showing they've been avoiding the fight. Even telling the WBC in November that they wouldn't be ready for the fight in Jan. And even delaying the fight twice against Wlad. Either show facts and proof or you're going on my ignore list and won't be able to respond to the topic. I don't have time for ya'll racist today
