If you allow yourself to gain 15+lbs of fat between fights, which many fighters do, you are able to lose that comfortably through camp. It is not a remotely difficult task over 8-12 weeks.

Most people don't even realize how simple making weight can be when done correctly. Some guys cut all the way to the weight through training/nutrition alone, some get to within 7-10lbs of the weight and sweat/dehydrate down in the final 24-48 hours, some stay at the weight year round...there are many methods depending on what a fighter prefers.

It's very clear to see when a fighter has had to drain his way down to a weight.
    Everything is OK...

But the guy is the MW WBC and "lineal" champ and he still drains himself to 155.
    Tell me why? Just why?

He doesn't 'drain' himself to anything.

He won the middleweight title from another 154lb fighter, the whole thing is a bit ridiculous. However, if he's about to jump to 160 and fight Golovkin in his first fight at the weight, what's the problem?

Why work off lbs that you dont have too?

You can't seriously tell me that draining yourself down to 155 is more beneficial for Canelo than just weighing in at around 157-158, only to put 20lbs back on over night.

        • GGG the overwhelming favorite before we even know any of the particulars. Might be time to drop a lil spare change on Canelo.

He works off weight he puts on between fights, he's simply working off fat. Towards the end he'll sweat off the final few, it's not difficult.

He and his team state that 155 is his most comfortable weight, but he can do 154 easily. A guy that can make 154 without killing himself is not better suited to fighting at 160, he simply isn't.

How much you put on after the weigh in doesn't mean anything. Maidana, Angulo, Trout, Stevens, Clottey and countless other guys make weight without issue and gain over 15lbs before the fight.

GGG does everything better than Canelo.
Footwork is better, punches technique is better, fundamentals are better, even his mix ups are better, he literally is a man who discovered his body and his boxing identity. He has so many amateur bouts and faced so many styles by now, he should be adaptable.

Whereas Canelo lacks everywhere, even if his pro resume is better, his fights were pretty close/losses if anything. And worse yet, Canelo literally has no boxing identity. After the Floyd loss, he tries to be a cute counter puncher for the most part, when his body and just about everything is built to contradict that.
This is exactly what happened with Chavez Jr. He took a loss to Martinez and tries his hands down approach the very next fight--and he looked like an idiot.
It's just a matter of refining your identity. I know GGG has done that and more. Whereas I'm not sure Canelo is going to execute anything rather well when the tests come by. Boxing is 100% imposing your style against another, and adapting. Same with just about anything when you're versus someone. It is all just a mental arena.
I'm not even betting that GGG is more powerful than Canelo at 160 or even all these exterior factors people usually look at-- I literally am going for the guy with actual skill, and other intangibles that might be a bit subtle and often overlooked in a boxing match. To me Canelo fights pretty. He looks flashy on the outside, but he has little to no control with most of anything he does(nor does his team) and that's so evident.
He throws wild shots, can't get his feet off and has a very low output. That's why the betting odds are heavily skewed against him. He's like a car with a nice exterior but a **** engine.
people care about resume cuz this isnt theory fighter compa. you gotta beat the best in there prime if you want to be the best. ggg is a powerful fighter but who has he beat??? when he gets thrown in with a proven killer like canelo his lack of experience will be exposed.

I hope this fight takes place because I will be banking with the Canelo loss.

GGG is going to KO Canelo "Mexican style"

Can't respect him because well you know well known stars won't get in the ring against him. Can't be because maybe just maybe others see something in this guy you don't. When Canelo walks around lighter than him you can call him the smaller man, plenty of mofo's in this sport melting down to fight in divisions where they have glaring advantages in. So perhaps now that you've spent the past god knows how long bashing maybe just maybe you can turn around and take other boxers to task for not being up to snuff in exposing this hype job. Since that's what he is right? A hype job that fights bums isn't it what you call him? Well ok, he's a hype job who fights bums...yet people you probably love to watch and gloss on about want no part of him.
