In all honesty, Jeffries is probably underated by most. This would be in large part due to people unfairly including his loss to Johnson in their reasoning. Using the Johnson loss to rank Jeffries is equivalent to ranking Muhammad Ali based on his performance again Larry Holmes or ranking Joe Louis based on his performances again Ezzard Charles and Rocky Marciano.

Personally, I've got Jeffries ranked somewhere around 12 or 13; but I'll admit that could be due to me being biased against him because of the era he came from. People generally grandize older fighters too much or do the exact opposite by discounting them too harshly while being enraptured with modern terrors of the ring or using phrases like, "with today's technology" and similar junk.

Jeffries had an impressive enough career that it warrants a second look, IMO.

If he fought Louis he would be schooled, same thing with Foreman and Dempsey imagine him with Ali wouldnt that be a friggan show. Tyson shouldnt even be ranked in the top 10 of anyone's list.
i was talking about maybe a Norton and some pre Louis era fighters. the crazy things he's done don't take away the fact that he was amazing for a short time in his prime....i'm not saying it makes him top 10 just that i would pick him over a lot of other great fighters from the past

Yes ofcourse, if one remembers correctly, Jefferies was over 300 pounds when he started his training to fight Johnson.
