Why are people even talking the Canelo v Golovkin Pursesplit?

Golovkin is the mandatory to Canelo's WBC 160lb Title.
According to WBC Rules, the challenger gets 30% of the total purse split.

So Canelo gets 70%, and Golovkin gets 30%.

    End of debate!

If Canelo asks for a catchweight, he has to give more £££ to Golovkin. Golovkin enters the negotiations with a 30% split already!

I think you are mistaken...because he isn't just the mandatory, he is the interim champion. If it went to a purse bid, Golovkin's split would be higher.

But it isn't going to go to a purse bid...It is either going to be made or not made. 70 -30 sounds reasonable to me....but i dont give a f**k, I just want to see the fight.

According to WBC Rule 1.27, split for champ/interim champ is 55-45 in the event of a purse bid.

        nice try though

according to sulaiman is 70-30, and it could vary depending on how much each fighter produces $$$, which could affect GGG even more...

Golovkin and his people should try and negotiate a flat fee in my opinion, I think there is a lot of uncertainty around how this fight is actually going to sell to the general public, I am not saying it will sell badly but it is fairly unpredictable.

They should try and negotiate a guarantee as close to $5 million as they can, and in this case Canelo's purse which would obviously still carry a guarantee but the amount will depend on revenue. GBP will be confident that it will sell and it is in their control, whilst GGG has to be happy with that amount of money and the shot to beat the biggest star in boxing and put himself on another level.

I think this scenario suits both sides.

This is no longer the rule

The interim champion split was removed in their latest *********s.

The rule now is the champion receives 70% and challenger receives 30% of 90% of the purse

The extra 10% of the purse goes to the winner (meaning Golovkin would receive 37% overall if he wins)

$5 mil is too low. GGG got 2 mil just from freakin' Wade. Khan got about 13 mil versus Canelo. For a flat fee, 10 - 15 sounds about right, this fight would do more than 500k PPVs. Literally everyone wants to see this fight, and casuals would buy it after hearing they're both big hitters and aggressive fighters.

That's not how it works. Golovkin is interim champion and it's a unification fight. From the WBC:
Upon the return of the champion, the WBC will order a mandatory bout for the undisputed WBC title with the interim champion. Both boxers are bound to participate in this bout and cannot participate in an intervening contest, except in special circumstances approved by a majority vote of the Board of Governors. If the bout is promoted through purse offer procedures, the purse split will be 55% for the champion and 45% for the interim champion. The WBC may alter this split at its discretion pursuant to the provisions of Rule 2.11(d).
