Comments Thread For: Atlas: Khan Wins Early Rounds, Will Make Mistake, Canelo Gets Him

Veteran trainer and ESPN expert analyst Teddy Atlas believes Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) will present a tough task in the early rounds for WBC middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs), before the bigger and younger man takes over in the later rounds.

"You don't get paid by the round" in boxing, right? Therefore, Alvarez is a dumbass if he doesn't simply charge at Khan in round 1 and KO him in a few seconds. There's no need for him to stand there and let the chinny little mosquito buzz around him. No respect for power, nothing. Just get it over with and hand Golovkin his belt.

I think those who have called this mismatch including myself would use that result as a "see told ya so" situation if he clobbered him in rounds 1-5

Atlas makes a lot of sense here if Khan can avoid getting stopped early !

I agree with Atlas. Early rounds Khan, Canelo body shots will make the difference. Khan gets KO'd. A nothing fight. Canelo has the fantasy league Middleweight title by fighting non Middleweights and ducking the Champ GGG.

I really think this could look a lot like Josesito Lopez versus Canelo ( y'all remember that? can't believe they made that ****...just like I can't believe they made this one)

Khan will have some moments early but it won't take very long at all for Canelo's size & power advantage to dominate

And once he starts connecting with a handful of good shots, Khan will be cut down like a thin tree in short order

I think it's a good bet that Khan is done within five

Not that often I agree with Teddy, but in this instance I do.

I can agree with Atlas on this. I can see Khan's speed winning some early rounds on activity but eventually Canelo is going to put a beating on him. Canelo by KO in round 7.

This is Khan's mo. He wins early rounds with blazing fast combinations, opponents realize he has no power, opponents get in closer range and load up, khan having sketchy boxing instincts starts throwing more combos to keep them at distance thus exposing defensive flaws more, then lights out
