Comments Thread For: David Haye: I'll Be Surprised if Shannon Briggs Beats Dimitrenko

As previously reported, former WBO world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs will face 6ft 7ins giant Alexander Dimitrenko at the O2 Arena in London on May 21. The Cannon (59-6-1, 52KOs) goes up against the Russian powerhouse knowing that a victory will set-up a much anticipated fight with former world champion David Haye later this year.

Bad to talk about Wilder that way. Haye picked the wrong time to come back. Fury and Joshua would beat him easy. He'll even BUM SQUAD would beat him.

Seriously though. Even THOUGH Demitrenko was only a top 10 heavy at his best, he's still a major step up from what Briggs is use to.

The question is, why is Briggs fighting a more legit opponent than the headliner?

Should of traded opponents, with Haye fighting dimitrenko and Briggs boxing the other dude, would of made more sense. Haye gone from a guy ranked in top 15 to a guy ranked 27 or something like that. Shows he has no real interest in earning his shot through the rankings, instead fight a few bums and then talk himself into a big pay day. Hope no one gives it to him. Not too sure if Briggs can beat this guy Russian at this stage of his career.

I think I might too. When Briggs was added to that card I thought he'd fight some Sprott-type guy. This is for sure the best guy Briggs as fought since Vitali put his ass in the hospital.

Dimitrenko is not very good.. if he stands his ground and trades with Briggs it will probably end badly for Dimitrenko.

Yes I hope Dimentrenko has an option of fighting Haye too.

I was think somebody like a Mcdermott or a shot Sprott type. Somebody that Briggs could beat with little cardio or even with reflexes as dull as a butter knife. But for Dimetrenko, Briggs will have to be close to the best he can be if Dimetrenko is in shape and is there to win.

Like Briggs is very good? Or really was ever that good? I will say this at his peak he does beat Dimitrenko but that was 15+ years ago.
