First, exposed is an overused term that is blanketing for weaknesses and certain moments. If anything got "exposed," it is that Green is subsceptible to being caught flush and not being ready for it. Considering McCrary's previous low quality of opposition, it's something to think about. It raises questions about Green, but his next fights will provide answers that aren't there yet.
Snippets of post-fight interview of Green, typed as well as possible:
"Me and Donnie mcCrary spent so many rounds in the gym sparring together. He had a sneaky left hook.
"I was trying to keep the [right hand] up."
"I was thinking I was going to finish the job. The same thing happened when I was an amateur in the national golden gloves."
"I made a mistake. I had a feeling it would happen. I'm glad it happened now [as opposed to in a later fight]."
"That's where it starts off at, with fundamentals. A house can't stand without a foundation. You can only get so far on talent for so long." ... he mentions Roy Jones Jr. and Muhammad Ali as lacking basic fundamentals ... wow, that's bluster.
"I was hurt, but I knew the best thing for me was to go down. I was aware what was going on. That's why i got right back up."
"He just caught me with a good shot that I did not see."
"I'd have tied him up [if mcCrary had jumped on him]"
On Calzaghe fight: "I'm not sure. I'm still ready. Donnie Mccrary's a great fighter. I fought a sparring partner tonight. If [Calzaghe] still wants the fight, we can do it. I can guarantee you it won't be the same thing."
Green did a Cotto. He sounded just like Cotto did after the fight. Cotto said that he had gained experince, and saw the lights (meaning he was down), and Green said better if it wasnt in a big fight. I think he was learning how to keep his composer, and learning how to not break down (like Cintron did against Margarito).
Sometimes i can't stand boxing forums for this exact reason. Boxing people are some of the worst fans and spectators. If a guy wins and wins and is never tested you question him. But if a guy makes a mistake gets tested then bounces back and knocks the guy's head off you say he was exposed. Come on guys lets take a second and think before we make ****** ass comments. It's ****** he got caught with a hard shot by a guy that was once his sparring partner. The most important thing is that he got back up and knocked him the *** out.
I see a lot of upside in GREEN, and if he can keep that right hand up i dont really see to many SMW beating him except maybe the Joe Cs and a few others but i wouldnt mind seeing him fight KESSLER simply becuz MIK is young and to me can be what Joe C could of been but will need to start now!
PS ALLEN IS STILL DTA ***** AND HIM BEING ROCKED WAS DEFINTLY A PLUS FOR HIM
Green definately gained some valuable experience in this fight. Like someone else says, it happens to everybody. Reminds me of Cotto vs Corley except Miguel wasnt floored.
