I dont see the correlation youre trying to make. Golovkin stepping aside for Cotto has absolutely nothing to do with Canelo and Golovkin. It also has no bearing at all on the fact that it would be a mandatory title fight which should be contested in accordance with the WBC rules, rather than GGG making concessions to the"A side". That was the crux of my statement. That being a title fight supersedes any revenue involved. Please explain how taking a step aside plays into that situation.

he had the option to step aside for money or to demand an actual fight for the title... he took the money... not only that, after cotto was stripped for the title he had no problem with canelo fighting for a vacant title for which he was the mandatory, didnt even said anything about it...

So, youre arguing that GGG should have tried to block the Cotto-Canelo fight? Youre saying you didnt want to see the 2nd biggest fight of 2015 happen? I didnt know that when Cotto was stripped of the belt only a couple days before the fight that Golovkin had any say in the matter. I assumed (maybe incorrectly) that Sulaiman made that decision.

Its pretty clear that Cotto was not going to fight Golovkin. Many of us believed that Canelo would fight Golovkin. Maybe Golovkin did too. Maybe he didnt foresee there being so much reluctance on the part of Canelo to defend his title and his word. Part of the step aside was the condition that Golovkin fight the winner next, which Canelo agreed to.

But seriously, thats all in the past. We need to look forward and see what happens in these next two weeks after Saturday. We cant say that because GGG took a step aside in the past that he doesnt ever deserve the shot that Canelo agreed to give him. We need to see if the WBC orders this fight and what actions they take.

It must be noted that while Golovkin accepted a step aside from an opponent who stuttered and got flustered at the mere mention of his name, he went out and collected another 160lb belt, thus taking a step closer to unification.

dont be naive, ggg wasnt going to block that fight, that fight didnt need a MW title on the line to be big, ggg was goint to demand the title only... canelo-cotto would have fought without the title, canelo had been looking for that fight even before cotto-maravilla.. the title was just the cherry on the top, the cake was just as good without it...

Im sure they still would have fought the same David v Goliath fight they did, but it is very interesting that Canelo paid a lot of money to fight for that strap. It is also interesting, since Cotto was stripped days before the fight, that Canelo was willing to fight for the vacant belt, and the obligation to fight Golovkin. That would have been the perfect time for Canelo to make his revelation that he isnt a middleweight, since it didn't have to be on the line.

The strap is just a cherry. Well hopefully, he lets go of that cherry and goes on to pick other cherries. Canelo seems to be a pretty good cherry picker

Sports are businesses. When you play for belts and medals, but not money, you're called "an amateur." When you say you'll go to 154 to fight Floyd, but 155 will totally drain you, then you're "business man."

What you're saying here is that Canelo won't budge from 155, and Golovkin is willing to fight top fighters in 3 divisions. Sounds about right.

Now, to your exceptions to the rule. Canelo: needs to fight at 154 to be considered JMW. Lara: always seems to make 'offers' when GGG alread has a fight scheduled. Not considered serious by many. Ward: pursuant to Wards own email offer, he is unwilling to fight GGG until mid to late 2016. Loeffler countered with 2017 if Ward can make 168. Too early still to dismiss this either way.

We can blame Toreano Johnson's shoulder for that fight being made. I will agree that the sanctioning bodies need credibility. I hope the WBC acts credibly in ordering their middleweight champion to defend against his mandatory.
