There is actually, Williams got stopped by a guy Kovalev stopped in 3 rounds.

Chilemba is a top 10 LHW who had an argument for winning all the fights he has "lost". He could prove quite tricky for Kovalev, Williams would not have.

Here's the thing though, Stevenson was supposed to fight Alvarez his mandatory, Alvarez won the eliminator to fight Stevenson and is a solid fighter who might well have beat him, so where is that fight?

Like I said in my other post. I'll watch the fight with no expectations. And if the bum can fight then he will get his props. Even if he gets stopped. It only takes about 90 seconds to see if a guy can complete or not.

Chilemba's a bum in your world? Bit harsh i'd say.

Yvon Michel said he wants to build the Alvarez vs Stevenson fight with the networks. He wants to see Alvarez fight twice before having a shot at Stevenson in December. Alvarez is much better than the cab drivers Stevenson fought in his last few fights & he could beat Stevenson but that guy is far from elite he was almost stopped by Prieto.

i feel bad for williams. he just missed out on the pbc heyday and the insane purses. he just fought for 50k and rodrigeuz just fought for 100k where he got a million to fight on hbo but yea pbc all about that money doe! williams prob would have gotten a million dollars a year ago to fight stevenson. now? 6 dollars.

Lol, Adonis is gonna take this fight for sure. This guy's so chinny and sloppy, it's another early KO.

chilemba probably deserved a draw against alvarez, who is currently being touted as a real threat to stevenson and by far a better opponent than this thomas williams jr.

it's a fight that could make kovalev look bad, and could also be valuable prep for ward in some ways. thomas jr. on the other hand is just a KO waiting to happen

Stevenson owns the WBC belt and Edwin Rodriguez was in their top 5. Rodriguez was also in the top 5 of the IBF.

By beating him Thomas Williams should shoot up in both sets of rankings.
Both the RING and TBRB, probably others though I think those two are enough.

Sanctioning body rankings dont reflect anything useful, and are only used when it seems convenient. Theres an almost infinite amount of examples discreditng them, including Burns ranked no.7 at 140 when he hasnt fought there in years, Martin being ranked no.3 before Glazkov, Guerrero being Floyds WBC mandatory, Bizier being Brooks mandatory. Of course, theres an example to which you'd find personally disgusting in Wade being mandatory at middleweight. Sanctioning body rankings arent based on merit.

None of Stevenson's last 3 opponents, and apparently his next one, will be a top 10 fighter at 175. We should be calling this travesty out.

If Stevenson wants to stay the WBC champ then he has to fight guys from their rankings. Just like Golovkin had to fight Wade.

There's no way around that unfortunately.

From a cut stoppage. Regardless Stevenson will knock him out. Dude doesn't have any defense and gets discouraged when his opponent can take his power.
