is James DeGale really that skilled?

You sort of see flashes of brilliance or think you do but is it really?

Its like he thinks he is much better than he is and fans/viewers become delusional when watching him, they buy into what he wants them too see, into believing he is this really talented, slick boxer but what I see is a guy who can do just about everything well but virtually everything he does is with absolutely no purpose or at the wrong times.
He is a try hard really he spends vast majority of the fight trying to look 'cute'. He almost gives you an impression without really doing anything without landing anything in fact. He fools peoples perception without even throwing a punch.

You see all this erratic head movement and think at times, hmm that was nice but the only times he isn't getting his head stoved in impersonating a slickster is when he is well out of range, moving his head for well no reason.
He isn't trying too counter, he isn't trying to close distance, it just serves no purpose. No wonder he gasses its just a total waste of energy.
He is just moving his head for the sake of looking pretty.

After last night do you know what I honestly thought? I came away thinking I'd of bet my house he'd batter Groves in a rematch now I'm really not so sure he would. I mean that too I think its rather evident there is not a lot to split them.

A good fighter with skills for sure but poor stamina, he is lazy, not a very high ring I.Q, way too arrogant and he has a terrible gameplan going into every fight. No adjustments at all.
Every fight he is ever in is the same as the last. Clearly a level or two above but ends up going life and death. People claim he fights up and down to opposition level but he does it every fight. When he steps up, he makes hard work of it just like he has at every other level.

I think if he dropped that ****** almost false ego (I don't think he's really like that just his attempt of being a showman) he'd do a lot better for it. Whilst it catches your eye and steals him rounds he p*sses away umpteen more doing it, it'll come back to haunt him like it did vs Groves and probably would of last night had the judges got it right and gave the rounds to the guy who was the one doing actual effective work to head and body. The guy trying to make a fight out of it not looking cute for 10 seconds.

I think he's very skilled. He just fought a guy who is very hungry and knew how to cut the ring off. And because of that Medina was able to make James work very hard. Medina was forcing James to switch a lot rather than James doing it on his own.

Agree. He went life and death with Porky Medina. A plodding brawler. Imagine what a skilled technician with 100x more power than Porky (GGG) would do.

I think he is skilled but he seems to switch off or become lazy. I don't even think it's a stamina problem.

But the thing with boxing is that it's not just about skill, it's a mental game too. There's no point in being physically gifted if you're lacking in other areas. I think he has all the physical tools to rule the 168 division, but does he have the mental capacity to put it all into action and beat the other champs? time will tell.

It wasn't just last night, he's done it in a lot of fights. He's still beaten Dirrell and Bute who aren't bums at all so he can obviously fight. But if he keeps doing it and having close fights with guys who aren't supposed to be that good, then eventually you would have to say DeGale actually isn't that good too.

I think he's quite skilled, I'd say a similar level to somebody like Bradley

That's a fantasy fight since Dan cov is just about done with his training camp and will kill Ggg hype for good

One big difference, Bradley is an overachiever and very consistent, great stamina

Agreed. Medina was there to be KO'd too. Degale's ring IQ is just piss poor.

                  Disappointed in Chunky.

His stamina is crap and that doesn't help him. He makes these fights tougher than what they should be.

I take nothing away from Medina but DeGale seems to make hard work of every fight even the fights where it would seem abundantly clear he is levels above. Fights that probably should be very easy outings.

Wilczewski, Dyah Davies, the guy Callum Smith just blasted out in a round.
Why is a guy that skilled constantly struggling with opponents like them? He went life and death in some of those.

I mean I'd of thought a guy that was that skilled would of shown it by shutting them out and dispatching of them in style. True world class operators shouldn't be having much issues with opponents of this calibre.
He is a world champion, an olympic gold medalist its quite worrying he is barely scraping by these sort of opponents to me anyway
