If Fury loses to Wlad in their rematch and holds true on his promise to retire, how will he be remembered? Will be be remembered as a respected champion? Or will be be more remembered like Buster Douglas, a fighter who was seen as talented but who's claim to take is catching lightning in a bottle by beating Tyson but never following up on what he showed that one night in history? What does boxingscene think?
Fury/Wlad 2 and Douglas/Tyson

It depends on what happens after but he would have to do more to not be remembered as this generations Buster Douglas.
If he pulls a Douglas and walks away after his big money defense then it would be hard to call him different except Buster actually won his big fight in exciting impressive fashion rather than the negative fight the Fury won so history wold be kinder to Douglas. So where as Douglas get the lighting in a bottle to explain his outlier, the word fluke would get thrown around much more with Fury. -
Many guys wouldn't defeat Wlad at 40 so hes probably going to get a raw deal here .At 6'9 hes probably the best mover for a huge fighter,so theres that. Fury is not of my liking stylistically but he would be a problem for many past time top ranked guys just on his skill/size .Buster will be remembered for narrowly surviving a knock down and the bell ringing against an off nite Tyson of 5'10 . I see Fury much more significant than Douglas in overall boxing history just based on his antics outside the ring. I think Douglas is also known for not giving 100% through out his career where Fury does . Buster is more talented than Fury but Fury is the more difficult to get a win on .If Fury retires i would still have to take into account what he physically brought to the game so thats subjective ,he will be an anomaly and we would have a better answer if he fought an ortiz or Wilder . Buster was an under achiever ,who had decent showings with Tucker as well but does that put him over Fury ? Im going to say no ,based on who i think would be more difficult to beat.Comment

Even if he wins and retires, he's not being remembered as much as Douglas. Douglas pulled off arguably the biggest upset in boxing history and is thought of to this day for it, and the guy that he beat was a much bigger star and feared opponent in the ring that Wlad is, so there's that as well.Comment
