  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Canelo Has Surpassed What I Accomplished at His Age

When Oscar De La Hoya turned 25, he had already won a gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics and won 27 professional fights with titles at super featherweight, lightweight, super lightweight and welterweight - with wins over fighters high quality and many veterans of the ring.

At 25, would De La Hoya have fought GGG

Canelo hasn't surpassed De La Hoya, and his oh so carefully crafted image is about to be forever tarnished after he ducks the great and fear Golovkin.

Maybe in PPV money, not in career accomplishments

        Let's see.

When Oscar was 25 years old:

A fantastic Amateur Career (gold medalist at the Olympics)

        Won belts at:
        Super Featherweight
        Lightweight
Won the Lineal Title at Light Welterweight
Won the Lineal Title at Welterweight

Also wins over: Julio Cesar Chavez (2x), Hector Camacho, Pernell Whitaker (although arguably a robbery), and more...

        Yeah, Canelo ain't there yet.

Dag, that's pretty dang good for a 25 year old. Hell no Canelo can't beat that 0

If Canelo would have beaten Mayweather, i'd say he would have been close. But with a loss to Mayweather it puts him behind 25 year old DLH by a good margin. DLH also has the major titles at 130-147 to boot, while Canelo's first title was at 154.

To be fair to Canelo, having won the 154 and 160 Ring titles is no easy feat for a 25 year old.

Lol, even De La Hoya doesn't believe the crap he's saying.

He's a promoter and will say and do anything to get his fighter over, including making himself look like a less accomplished fighter.

Doubt it, in 10 years when Canelo will be finishing his career Golovkin will be largely forgotten. There'll be threads like "Anyone remember that Golovkin guy?" "2010's weakest era, a guy named Golovkin was top 3 P4P LOL".

Oscar is full of ****. And I don't even like him.........Canelo beats Khan and runs from GGG to fight Pac? Even if Pac is only 80% and just a bit more aggressive than vs Bradley, he'll box circles around Canelo.......he'll bust up that slow-footed ass........

IF they avoid GGG, I hope they are greedy enough to take that fight Pac will really bust him up which would be the ultimate disaster. His selected opponents just keep getting smaller...........GGG will absolutely WRECK him.....there isn't a single thing Canelo does better than GGG except gain weight overnight..........LMAO
