I hope he's not serious about fighting the winner of Crawford and Postol. He should be looking at Verdejo, Fortuna, Gamboa, Corrales, Francisco Vargas, Walters, etc.

This common sense when you sign a contract.

There was supposed to be a guarantee on the money he was making while fighting, Top Rank were in breach of that.

If there is no guarantee that you are going to be making the money you agreed upon in the contract, you stop working and resolve the issue before you do any labour, especially in boxing. Nobody wants to being that job for free.

2 Jobs? and you don't know how a contract dispute comes about?
First of all,he wasn't doing anything for free,he was getting 6 figure paydays, and they were getting bigger with each fight. Second of all,his main issue with the contract was of its duration, not now much he was getting paid. I've read multiple articles, and the all coincide that Mikey's issue was that he didn't like the fact that top rank was making undisclosed amounts of money from his fights. So we have a fighter who is making increasingly large amounts of money, but he wanted to make more,so he tried to split while he was still under contract. When he saw that he couldn't leave,he tried sueing, and when that didn't work,he Sat on the shelf like an idiot. He basically screwed himself over.

What weight class is he gonna fight at, and when is he fighting next? Haven't heard about him for a minute.

I agree with all those points but the biggest reason why it was a TERRIBLE decision is let's say he won in court you STILL CAN'T RECOUP YEARS IN YOUR PRIME. He recouped nothing by his actions and became a free agent actually later then he would of if he just fought the remaining fights on his contract. Lost money (money in 2 years worth of fighter purses he forfeited which he may NEVER recoup) and MOST important years. People forget he had a big money fight with Gamboa on the table and if he won that fight was the FRONT runner to fight Manny next. Think about what that would of done for his career. Instead he was out of sight out of mind will likely need to fight a year full of bums to knock off the rust he turns 29 this year. So what he will be 30 by the time he gets a real fight? There is no guarantee he will get back to the same level he was at with so much time off and now leaping up multiple weight classes.

I agree with what you said.

Im happy that Mikey got the freedom he was looking for, but the advice he took to get it was bad IMO. Ok I get he was unhappy with his situation at Top Rank. They guaranteed him a certain amount of money and they breached on that. So he should have taken them to court like he did for breach of contract and still fought and make the little money Top Rank was breaching on. The court would have seen they were breaching on a guarantee, so they would have ended up awarding him that money they promised and possibly more as punishment towards Top Rank and still got his freedom. But instead he was out two years(which were prime years, SMH) and made zero money while taking this stand.

I totally commend Mikey on the stand he took but I think he should have went at it differently.

Crawford just got $1.21 million for fighting Lundy. He'll be getting more in a PPV fight fighting a boring fighter. It's a risky fight doe.

Floyd would make Mikey fight Theopane for 300K.

Simply put, the Garcias are weighing their options and are in discussions with most of the kingmakers of the sport — and that includes Al Haymon. Garcia called aligning with Haymon “one big possibility.” But whatever they do, they don’t want their parterships to restrict them from making the biggest fights possible.

“I don’t think Mikey wants to sign with any promoter,” Garcia told ******.com on Wednesday. “I think what Mikey wants to do is maybe to be open with everybody because we know HBO could also be interested and there are some big fights out there. There’s the winner of Terence Crawford and Viktor Postol. Then there are so many great fighters fighting for PBC that could also make sense. Golden Boy always has a lot of names around 135, 140 and eventually 147. Whatever makes the most sense.”
someone needs to put mikey in contact with khan and get him a advisory contract like khan has, khan can basically do what he wants not all haymon fighters can do that.
