This Concept That Canelo Was "Green" When Floyd Fought Him Is Nonsensical

I distinctly remember saying that it was a little early for Canelo to take the fight. I was rooting for Floyd but felt Canelo was still coming into his own and would be ready in a year or so. I wasn't the only one. That seemed to be the general sentiment floating around.

I'm all for praising Floyd's greatness but let's not be children and pretend every single thing he did was spun from gold and every scenario was the most challenging to him. Come on.

Edit; just to make no mistake, it was still a ballsy fight for May to take. I give him full credit for that. Everyone said he wouldn't fight Canelo, even though he was favored.

Fact is if Mayweather thought he could beat canelo at 154 he would have.

Theirs a few videos with nate jones when he left mayweather boxing to start his own gym and he says that draining canelo was pretty much the game plan and when we saw him on stage for the weigh in we knew it worked.

That fight was won for mayweather on the stipulations he put on canelo.

Simple as that mayweather is a good fighter I like him (I talk shit cause too many here have some **** love for the dude) I just wish mayweather didnt always take the bitch route in his fight, waiting fighters out, purchasing advantages, weight draining fighters.

Mayweather himself admit he done all these things which shocks me when hes own fans cant.

Mayweather himself says hes not TBE in the ring but TBE in the fighting game, the business of boxing. He knows he leverage all of his power to strip his oppenents of pretty much the chances to win.

Your first statement applies to the whole 154-168 for GGG but most Can't-Nelo fan boys hold him to that offer that was made 2 years ago

He weighed in at 153 for trout, only had to weight 1 pound less and there was no rehydration clause. All I hear are excuses.

The bold pretty much covers it.

Are you saying that he wasnt yet in his prime or that he was green?

Cause i dont think OP was saying that Canelo was already as good as he would ever be.

At that age, most guys still have room to improve. I think Canelo has done that. Good on him. But the truth is that he wasnt green, didnt lack experience, the stage wasn't too big for him and he wasn't under developed. Its just that Floyd was that much better.

Like Floyd Jr said about CWs, Canelo is still an undefeated fighter.

Canelo hadn't fought anyone back then and didn't look good against Trout. The open scoring didn't help Trout either and got him out of his game plan.

Floyd Sr said it best. Canelo had trouble making weight and would be drained trying to make 152. Also mentioned that Canelo at one point is no longer losing fat and draining from his muscles.

Plus, Canelo fought relatively flat footed, slow work rate and stamina problems. Plus he was green. All this came out from Floyd Sr's mouth while laughing when the reporter commented that Canelo would come out storming. Sr laughed and said that's what we want because he has no stamina.

There is no distinct line to separate those two as one blends into the other as a natural progression. It could be argued that you are a little green until you hit your prime. Then, you have guys like Floyd who gave some of his best fights pre-prime, even though he became technically more sound later on.

I think Canelo is just coming into his prime now and was still a bit green when he fought May. A lot of the mistakes he was making were things he got away with because he never had to come to terms with them. That loss/clowning caused him to buckle down and really grow as a fighter. Look at the fights before Mayweather vs after and there is a marked difference in his ring IQ and general behavior. No more hesitation/waiting. He can actively pursue in an effective way.

Doesn't mean it wasn't a legit win for May or that Canelo would beat him now. I don't know why people are so insecure with the idea that Canelo has improved since Mayweather. At the time, it was still a great fight for Money to take. Canelo being better now doesn't threaten May's legacy.

I can't give Floyd full credit for that fight due to that catch weight bullshit.
