  • This Concept That Canelo Was "Green" When Floyd Fought Him Is Nonsensical

People need to stop saying Floyd fought a "green" Canelo. Before the fight people were making Canelo out to be some unstoppable monster that Floyd would not dare face. After Floyd beats him in a shut out people go back on their claims and say Canelo was too young. People need to stop making excuses by retroactively going back on their initial claims.

At the time Floyd fought Canelo, he was 22 going on 23 with a record of 42-0-1 and had been a professional 8 years. If you have done anything in your life for 8 years absolutely no one would call that being "green". Canelo had also competed in two divisions and was the WBC light middleweight champion.

No one discredits Duran's win over Leonard because Leonard was 23 years old and only fought pro for 4 years. No one makes excuses for Tyson for losing to Douglas at 23 years old while being pro for five years. So why make excuses for Canelo who had been a professional for EIGHT years by calling him green?
This logic is even worse considering the fact that Mayweather was pushing 40 and had been a semi active fighter himself when he beat Canelo.

Just admit Mayweather is a better fighter than Canelo ever could be.

His biggest win was scraping past Trout.

And i dont think anyone would disagree with Floyd being a better fighter than Canelo ever could be.

Canelo isn't a special fighter tbh bog standard average type who brings a big following behind him Oscar and Canelo both realize fighting a real proper world class fighter at Canelo natural weight would likely end Canelos career.

No-one has ever said Canelo is a better fighter than Floyd, in any sense whatsoever.

Canelo's only experience at the top level was an either-way fight with Trout. A fight he really didn't need to worry about past round 4. Whilst I don't necessarily agree with those who say he was 'too green', I can see their point.

I wish Floyd fought the guy at 154. The unnecessary asterisk next to this fight erodes some of the shine of an otherwise fantastic win

          He was though

would like to see a rematch with floyd

canelo looks faster and his footwork has improved, he keeps his weight in check between fights

          they can fight at 154

floyds win over canelo will always be tainted

I have more of a problem with people claiming Canelo is better now, which i have yet to see. He might be bigger and slightly older but he is still essentially the same fighter who'd get beaten the same way by Mayweather, green or not.

NOT only was he GREEN, he was DRAINED down to 152 lol. Vampire Nelo was in no shape for that fight, he fought at 155 the very next fight lol, couldnt even make 154. Even half a pound is TOO MUCH when you are already drained to death.

Floyds career is full of these asterisks BUT truth is, Floyd wasnt as big a coward at 25 as Canelo is.

Meh...sore losers make excuses. It's not even worth addressing them.

johnwoo8686 I wouldn't worry about it. Posters will post anything when they are denigrating a fighter because they do not like him. They will post the craziest things after they predict a fighter a will beat fighter B and fighter B wins. When fighter B is Floyd, thats when you get the craziest and most ******ed posts.

Floyd Mayweather will be a 1st ballot HOF'er and is one of the top 15-20 fighters that has ever lived. he has grossed more money than any fighter in history. It defies logic and the history of this sport that he achieved these milestones against weak, old and over rated opponents as some on NSB suggest.
