I'll never understand how or why people defend Canelo. I can see if he was doing this weight thing once but he's doing it a lot...like years! Blowing up guys and say he's great. Fans in boxing are becoming weirder everyday.

The concept of a lineal champion needing to lose in the ring is a good one, but it is also flawed... In this case the lineal champion isn't neccesarily a boxer viewed as the best.
There is no organisation to police lineal champs, it is just a way for us fans to keep track of who's on top. Therefore it is us as fans who give this title any meaning or significance. As a part of this, I for one would like to dispute Alvarez if he drops the title, and especially if Triple flop unifies all titles. Hopefully common sense prevails and we start a new lineage with Golovkin (as fans control the title), but this will be disputed of course!
After all, if Alvarez followed the rules it would be a 100% duck, but because he has his own weight division he can justify ducking Golovkin because little G won't fight at Caneloweight. Only demands GGG is making is that they follow the rules. Canelo is making up rules as he goes along the **** sucker.Originally posted by SilverMiles View PostDude don't sweat it too much, Lineal is a imaginary concept. The title only exists in the mind of the fan.
If Canelo vacates the WBC title no one with common sense will consider him a world champion at MW of any sort. He has abandon not only his obligation as WBC champion but also his obligation to face the world recognized #1 MW. If GGG captures all the titles he's the man of the division and the person that beats him will be the man.
I really don't see how he gets alway with this, Mexico is a prideful country. They take pride in having world champions. I'm very interested to see how they'll react when Canelo just willing to hand over a Championshio that belongs to the country of Mexico.
Canelo won the Ring lineal from Cotto. According to their rules, he will lose it if he doesn't defend at the championship weight at least once every 18 months.
The MW championship weight is above 154 and up to 160. It's going to be interesting to see how the Ring - owned by Oscar Dela Hoya - react if Canelo uses his "I'm not a MW" excuse to avoid fighting GGG at the championship weight and keeps fighting at 155 while continuing to call himself the lineal MW champion.
