  • At age 34 Bernard Hopkins had a record of 35-2-1 1 NC

His best win was Glen Johnson, who went on to lose 20 more times. lol. He had fought Robert Allen and Segundo Mercado twice, and the biggest name he fought was Roy Jones.

That middleweight era was rather thin, so my question is this. If he was doing this today, would you have pressured him to move up? Or would you support him in his goal to be undisputed middleweight champion?

He stayed fighting as a middleweight til he was 40.

    What?

He was pressured to move up, especially after RJJ and Toney had moved up.
Also, most people didn't give a damn about Hopkins till his Middleweight run because of his resume and his loss to RJJ. He was getting **** on constantly.

It's only till the decline of RJJ have people really looked at Hopkins and started given him credit for his longevity and what he did at MW.
Just look at the Pavlik fight, most (if not all) were picking him to get sparked out and this was constant throughout his run.

What? This is common knowledge. I don't know if there will be many old articles online about this but I'll try to find some, but if you were watching boxing from the late 90s - early 00s, then this is not some secret.

I've been watching since the 80s. There was very few fans calling for Hopkins to move up. I had Ring and KO magazines in my house monthly.

These are some articles which mention that he was criticized for not movn=ing up in weight:

                    http://www.thesweetscience.com/artic...d-rarely-go-up

                    http://www.secondsout.com/usa-boxing...e-wright-fight

The first article is the best one, the second just mentions how he was criticized for not moving up.
