Brooks defences have been very poor. Dan was a mandatory, gavin was inexcusable and bizier was another mandatory, he wasn't allowed to reschedule the chaves fight. In terms of actually gaining the champion, brook is the only real one. Thurman was given a belt and Garcia beat someone who didn't deserve a shot

All the titles are made outta paper these days more or less, but I don't feel like Kell's a paper champion. He beat Porter which was a great win & is arguably the best win any of the current top guys at 147 got.

That said he's done only paper champion things since winning the title. I'd say this is sorta comparable to George Foreman's reign as the lineal HW champion. He beat a legit guy, but then he defended it against bs guys lessening the lineal titles value.

Yes he is a paper title holder he had to constantly clinch and wrestle with the only legitimate opponent he ever fought that doesn't impress me.
Kell Brook was on the center stage and he put on a below average performance he barely won that title and you could certainly argue the title should still be with Shawn since one he was the real champion he earned it, he was constantly being hugged by Kell that and Shawn was constantly pushing the fight action throwing more he controlled the ring.

        Kell is a hype job.

He is absolutely a real champion and a good one. He came to the states and beat Porter to get his title. The guys he defended the title against aren't that good but they are better than the subpar fighters Thurman and Garcia have fought recently. Guerrero and Collazo are washed up with no business fighting for world titles at this time. I would favor Brook to beat any active welterweight except Spence. I consider Pacquiao and Mayweather retired until they say they are not retired.

Took the Title with a solid win over Porter, followed by 1 voluntary and 2 mandatories, which I don't see a problem with?. He may continue at this level as it is relatively safe and provides a decent purse, but he wouldn't be the only one currently taking that career choice.

There are simply too many belts to make an informed decision, because the ranking system makes lots of fights look good on paper.

Perhaps the sanctioning bodies should rename the belts in each weight as Regular, Ribbed and Flavoured. That way we'd know who was really ****ing us over and at what level.

Anyway, I think Brook can step up if required.

Right now everyone at welterweight is a paper champ.

Irrelevant as Brook won his title from Porter, a top 5 welter. In fact Brook is the only non paper champ at 147. The other belt holders won vacant titles.

Now the opposition he defended against have been subpar but that's not what the term paper champ means, it refers to how you got that belt.
