Should clarify for some folks, that's the reported purse per the commission. It's not necessarily the amount of cash HBO's putting up for the fight. They sold nearly 16,000 tickets, that's around a million dollar gate. Additionally, Golovkin has numerous international tv deals and sponsors. Those may or may not be included the reported purse (generally not in order to save and city, state, and federal taxes as well as belt fee's).

Well said because late last year it was rumored that HBO wouldn't budge over 3mil for any fight event not on ppv. I doubt the bulk of this money is coming from HBO considering they have to pay chocolatito his money too.
