He might. Stevenson's straight left is as good a punch as there is in the sport. But he might not. Beterbiev's a big LHW to have coming after you if you're gassing, as Adonis tends to do.

Yes! And the division comes back to life! Shame he had to endure such a severe injury but no reason he can't get a fight with Chickenson although I assume Adonis will be quacking around for the next 18 months or so until he packs it in. Beterbiev needs 3 or 4 wins and an eliminator then he can take on the Ward/Kovalev winner in late 2017 hopefully!

I think this is going to do bad ratings on ESPN.

But looking at it from Beterbiev's point of view it's not that bad of an opponent coming off injury and a layoff.

He's not bad, even if he did avoid Kovalev.

we won't find out how good he is unfortunately. haymon has a 15 year plan for him and stevenson it seems. in 2030 they will meet for the lineal championship.

                  How many fights did Kovalev take before getting a "real" opponent ? ... 20 ?, 21 ? ... OK ...

You guys are funny thinking he would fight any GYM stable guys with the likes of Fonfara, Oosthuizen, Chilemba, Shabranskyy, Gonzalez, Barrera all there to be taken down before he takes all the titles...

It's not a bad tune-up for a prospect coming off surgery, it just shouldn't be headlining ESPN (not ESPN 2).

This is what the ESPN head said at the time:

                      I wouldn't call this a "premier-level primetime fight".

Giiven that the PBC brought about the end of FNF and greatly reduced the amount of live boxing on the ESPN networks, you'd like to see something better.
Beterbiev, shoulder injury aside, was a fight away from stepping in with Kovalev and giving him that work. If you earnestly believe that that was the type of fighter that you'd still be seeing on FNF, I'm not sure what to tell you.
