$350k for a hometown fight against an unproven prospect? That's a situation any fighter coming off several losses would love to have. He just wasn't good enough to capitalize.
Algieri forced to fight spence ?

Forced to fight for $325K for a life-threatening fight. Algieri's trainer says it all.
Is PBC broke or Haymon would just rather spend millions overpaying his favorites like Thurman, Santa Cruz, etc. for fear of losing them?
Might be the wrong time for Mikey to switch ships.Comment

Idk if I'd say he was forced. Thats sounds like the wrong definition of what happened. Sounds like Algieri wanted $300k+ & Spence was the guy who was worth $300k+. If he was cool with $150k or $200k there was probably more options. So saying he was forced is like saying I was forced to eat Burger King cuz I forgot my wallet & only had $5 on me. Nah I coulda went & got my wallet or I coulda passed on Burger King's heart attack special.
Algieri definitely could use a few whatever fights, but to me he seems like a cat who's looking to get in & get out which I respect & is the way to do it. These guys fighting into their late 30's & 40's are doing it wrong. Man up & fight the best guys now & let the next guys come in & do the same.Comment

Again forced seems a bit much.
But don't get it twisted. Every fight is a life threatening one. Some cats are fighting for a few hundred dollars & could suffer life changing or life threatening damage in a fight.
I was reading about this 19 year old kid from Michigan (where I'm from) who got killed in his pro debut back in December. Betting his purse was virtually nothing for that fight.

Jackson said he was offered other fights but it wasn't for the $ he wanted. Props to Chris for chasing big cheques and big names
Don't be a f.ucking lame and cry that he didn't have options (because he did ) he just went after high risk higher payday.Comment
