He loss his ability to inside fight over time.

In those ancient fights he looked well on his way towards developing into a pressure fighter.

Then roach taught him a completely different fighting style that frequently alternates between pressure on and off.

if your intention is to run for your life like what mosley did and cotto in the later rounds, then whatever cutting off of the ring you do would be futile. sure you might be able to trap them but might not be enough chance to set up your own punches.

Great small fighters can do that and are expected to be able to do it.. That's why they are world class..

Frazier and tyson weren't huge and easily cutoff the ring on bigger guys. So has hatton, toney, hopkins, floyd, cotto, rigo, marquez, etc...

If you're elite, you should be able to do it, if called for
