I don't know where this claim that he's actually 40-2 is coming, but I did notice that several boxing outlets erroneously listed him as 21-6-1 entering this fight instead of 18-8 according to boxrec, so perhaps there was confusion on the part of Verdejo's team and Rodriguez tried to capitalize on it by inflating his record in order to psyche Verdejo out. Just speculating.
I'm pretty sure I heard that is what his team claimed. It could have been a psychological warfare move. They also mentioned this was the first time the guy was fighting out of Mexico. He was supposed to be an easy fight but it provided a good learning session for Verdejo. I still insist he could have done way better with his defense. Ne needs work!!

I was there.... so you guys can ask me about it. :-)

Anyway, no... not Verdejo's best performance by any means. It's not the end of the world, though. I do, however agree he needs to move on with another trainer the sooner the better. He needs help getting to the next level. Now to set some things straight.

The KD was not a KD. Please. It was a push/slip. Clear as day. Yes... Verdejo did get tagged, but didn't seem to be in any danger. He won handily. The guy, last-minute replacement or not, was a tough bruiser. He came to fight and try to win. He takes a good punch (don't all Mexicans?). Good learning experience for Felix. One thing he needs to tone down is his swinging for the fences with every right hand. Knock that out, Felix. Start boxing more, and KO's will come by themselves.

Again... I was there... so I would know. :-)

Hmmm, IDK what to think about Felix. His fight against Navara(sp?) he passed the "eye test" with speed, power, and explosiveness. He's not been as good since then.

Lmao Verdejo isn't a fighter. He's overrated. He has skills, but he's not a tough fighter. Keep him away from Saul Rodriguez. That boy will kill him. He struggled with a no one.

            .................

Verdejo did not struggled in any round period. I know we all want him to KO everybody they put in front of him but his last minute opponent was tuff as nails, he took everything thrown at him and that was the bottom line.

Also the slip was just that and never a knock down.

He clearly said his left hand was hurt and that may be the only problem he had.

            Next.......war Verdejo!

Saul Rodriguez just went the distance against a fighter who is 12-4 last August. He isn't exactly dominating all of his opponents.

When Felix doesn't get a KO Mexicans rejoice and talk about how overrated he is, love these forums.

It's time to step up. It's clear he's getting bored.
Feeding a guy too many tomatoes can lead to this.
