I don't know why he gets all the hate lately. That was a really good fight with Duhaupas. Both guys landed bombs especially Helenius. Duhaupas landed some great body shots early & his chin came into play again in the 6th round. Helenius was up on my card 4-1 (48-46 with the KD) going into the 6th. They had some big exchanges in the middle of the ring. Helenius was winning the 6th round cleanly after launching a serious assault but Duhaupas solid chin weathered the storm & when Helenius dropped his hands for a second from punching himself out Duhaupas threw a laser right hand & laid him out! By no means does that fight mean Helenius is done. He got caught napping for a second & paid for it. He looked in good shape & well prepared. There is no doubt in my mind Helenius couldn't believe Duhaupas was still standing after some of the punches he hit him with. He learned more today in this loss than any of his victories. He got caught with his hands down & wasn't expecting that punch. This fight really does magnify Wilder's win against Duhaupas. Duhaupas has improved immensely the last year with the level of competition he has faced. Wins over Charr & Helenius are good ones & no shame in the loss to Wilder. You can even argue the close fight with Teper may have a tainted result because of teper's failed drug tests. Hands down the best HW fight this year so far. Duhaupas is moving up the rankings fast & has to be commended for this win. Helenius didn't do many things wrong in this fight other than drop his hands in the 6th when he was momentarily gassed...

I am not Helenius hater, but the ugly fact is, he is quite lost with his career currently. After his comeback all his fights have been horrible. He has changed his style from Sauerland-era turtle shell defence into open, head-up hammering. He took way too much shots in from Duhaupas, Rill and even Lobjanidze.

His current coach does not have any experience from boxing, and his team does not see his strengths and weaknesses. He is not the most powerful puncher in the world, as his coach stated. Still he relied on his power too much against Duhaupas. Dave Allen, who sparred him against Duhaupas, said he is a decent puncher, but nothing extraordinary. Also Duhaupas said after the match that Helenius doesn't have the snap like Wilder did.

I really see the Duhaupas match differently than joe strong. Helenius took way too many hard knocks in from Duhaupas throughout the match and slowly wore out. His legs went soft first time in third round, and after that hit his game was messed up. From that moment I saw that he will be soon knocked out, as his eyes rolled all over, he struggled keeping his hands up, and started to miss a lot of punches.

He really needs a coach who understands where he stands and plans his fighting strategy accordingly. He is not fit or skillful enough to fight like he did in his post-comeback fights. He should lean back to sauerland-era tactics, keep his defence and rely more to counter punches. With current setup his is hardly a TOP 50 HW.

His career might not be over, but he's without a big promoter, big & dangerous and coming off a loss, so i suspect he'll have a hard time finding good fights.
