Where Does Nicholas Walters Go From Here?

After all the smoke cleared, Walters and Lomachenko couldn't agree to terms and the fight fell through. For those that don't know, the offer was $850K to Loma and $550K to Walters. Walters didn't feel he was the B-side and wanted $850K as well. Loma offered to give Walters $300k if he beat him but they couldn't reach terms.

I'm not here to point fingers (I feel neither guy is a draw so 50/50 seems fair) but what does this do to Walters career. I thought Loma would've beat him convincingly but I still like Walters as a fighter. Strong puncher, good jab, sizeable at the weight and can still make some noise at 130.

My concern is Top Rank will put him on the shelf which will lead to another Mikey Garcia, Chavez Jr. type dispute that will leave him inactive for the next couple of years. There are still some good fights for him like Uchiyama, Fortuna and others.

    Thoughts?

Lomachenko couldn't even beat Salido. He would get destroyed against Walters.

Give Walters his fair share and take the fight instead of ducking him.

Doesn't Top Rank promote both of them, surely they are able to determine what is fair market value for their respective services?

I always felt it was a 50-50 fight, disappointed not to see it happen but I feel Walters should have backed himself and taken the risk. It's not like Loma was going to knock him out.

Where else is he going to get paid like that? The Haymon gravy train is shuddering to a halt and he mightn't even want him anyway.

I would like to know his contract situation. If it is almost up I would let it run out and go where the money is. Only 500K to him and Loma 800K offer was a slap in the face!

Arum's answer was that "Loma is the best fighter in the world" and that's why he should get more. That's fine if he believes that but he hasn't proven it yet.

Apparently Al Haymon fighters think it is a good payday with both Rocky Martinez and Javier Fortuna agreeing to the purse. Walters should just take it and then if he wins he will make even more in his next fight. Not a bad purse for a guy with really one signature win ove a guy outside of his best weight class and he had a draw in his last fight even though i thought he really beat sosa.

That being said they should revisit the Uchiyama talks

Arum doesn't actually care who is the best fighter, he cares who is the more marketable fighter to make him money.

If, in his opinion, that is Loma then I'm afraid Walters just has to accept it and prove him wrong.

Unfortunately, he didn't and he's not going to see that money elsewhere. Everyone loses.
