What is HBO giving you? Why do people love HBO and hate Haymon?
I'm a PBC fan, but I've been thinking about why HBO means more to most fans & why PBC has had such a hard time despite some FOTY type fights as of late. I've come up with many small theories & beliefs. But oddly Jim Lampley gave me perhaps the one I most believe now the most on a Chris Mannix podcast about a week ago while talking about the Bradley vs Pacquiao III fight.

Basically what Lampley said is that fans have come to expect what the premium cable & PPV model has given us which Free TV doesn't. Namely he was talking about all the "behind the curtains" type **** like the well done features before a fight, the ring walk, between round boxer/trainer interactions & even a more consistent & well done post fight interview with the winners & losers for big fights. HBO gives you the full boxing experience. Free TV fights give you an abbreviated version of what HBO gives us that leaves fans feeling that they are getting an inferior product.

This theory rings extremely true when you read behind the lines of what people are trying to say in all their fanboy & hater bs on a forum like this.

Here's the link to the podcast if you wanna have a listen to Lampley discussing this. Its in the last 12 minutes of the show that this gets discussed.

Mayweather and Pacquiao split boxing's fanbase up.

The Floyd side likes Haymon, PBC, defense, movement, drug testing, etc.

The Pac side likes HBO, hates PBC, hates defense, hates movement, hated drug testing up until TKO 6 and IV gate, etc.

I don't for one minute believe any considerable amount of fans gives a f#ck about unethical practices in maybe the most unethical sport that still commands mainstream attention. In particular between promoters. Arum has been caught paying off alphabet groups. He wouldn't be in the business today if a large segment of fans gave a **** about this sorta stuff.

Hes taking over also which can be a good or bad thing, monopolization is never a good thing.

That being said, the only thing i care about are fights and good matchmaking. While there are a lot of bad match ups there are a lot of good ones. Theyre free and all available on youtube.
Hes good in my book and should be good with all boxing fans
lol I prefer Haymon unethical practices with other promoters than those same promoters doing illegal acts to their fighters.

Since when does anyone on PBC do hardcore drug testing? They all duck VADA testing because it catches the cheaters, USADA is easy to beat if you know the right people, VADA, not so much.

I don't care that people do not like Haymon or PBC. I just hate it when they say it's because "he hasn't told me what his plans are." The same posters that say this put their money in banks and investment funds without having heard the CEO detail what the plans are.

The other most often cited reason is because he is trying to take over boxing and start a monopoly. These same posters never cared when HBO was the only place we could really get boxing The other is his alleged violation of the Ali act, something that has not been proven.

The above reasons seem very disingenuous.

Haymon manages 2 or 3 hundred boxers and that's unheard of. If he gives each boxer the same amount of his time and works 40 hours a week that comes to only less than 30 minutes a month per boxer. That's not enough time and he is spread too thin just to maximize the money he makes. He manages many fighters who will be fighting each other which is a contrast of interest. He gets god awful cherry pick fights for his champions. Russell Jr. is defending his title against a guy boxrec ranks 108 in the world. Not top 10 and not even top 100 but 108. That's terrible. He may have made some good fights happen but he has prevented many more good fights from happening. If he got out of the boxing business I don't think boxing would be any worse off at all. HBO is far from perfect and they have also kept some very good fights from happening. They have too much power just like Haymon.
