    Pac-Bradley III financial flop?

A lot of people were acting certain that 400-500k buys is a flop, but I wasn't so sure. I decided to do a little math.

Pac and Bradley were reported to have a total guarantee of $20m and $6m separately, which includes the base purses listed above. If you total all the purses, you get $27,085,000.

At $59.99, assuming no one bought HD, the break even point on the purses would be 451,492 buys.

At $69.99, assuming everyone bought HD, the break even point on the purses would be 386,984 buys.

The true breakeven point was probably about 400k or so, assuming most people buy HD.

TLDR: Most likely, but not definitely, TR made a small profit on the event.

EDIT: This doesn't even include ticket revenues, but to be fair also doesn't include other costs of promoting the event.

Cable providers take half of that, so yes it was a flop.

I'd need to see something that says that is the case for this particular fight doe. I remember that % being much much lower than that for May-Pac for instance.

Don't forget that TopRank distributed the PPV on TopRank.tv, where I and many other people bought it as well. (No cable cut)

      Don't forget the ticket sales.

I think 50% of PPV revenues go to the cable companies. So with your purse number of $27M you need:

        $70 x 50% = $35 to Top Rank

        Top Rank needs $27M / $35 = 771,429 needed to break even.

That's probably why Arum wanted the 700K number and said the 500K number was not good.

And yes. I know I'm ignoring gate revenues, sponsorships, international PPV, etc.

The only thing that would make this a flop is if Bob is not reporting the numbers accurately, which is definitely a possibility.

          IF
400-500k people purchased this fight, knowing what we already knew, then that is a good number.

My gut tells me Bob knew last week he was going to have to come out of pocket to pay Manny his guarantee.

You'd need to see something? They took a lower % for Mayweather-Pac because that was the biggest fight ever. The % of people that would choose to watch it through the internet compared to HBO is going to be low. You're trying too hard, this fight is a flop or maybe not, i think those $20 mil purses Arum "guarantees" Pacquiao aren't guaranteed at all and are linked to PPV sales.

Hope so. This fight didn't interest me and I'm a Bradley fan.

I wasn't claiming the % would be identical to a fight like May-Pac, just arguing that there isn't a fixed % for all fights. I also wasn't claiming that most people watched it through the TR website.

Lets not forget HBO take around 10% of the PPV also.

First Pac fight in years where I didn't buy the PPV.
