Did Floyd Mayweather's fights with Maidana take a lot out of him?

Absolutely, I think it terrified floyd that a fighter in his diviison could do this.

Maidana actually hit floyd with one of the hardest shots he's ever absorbed after round 3....

Thoughts? Were the Mayweather-Maidana fights (esp. the first one) career-shortening boxing matches for Mayweather? To me it seems yes they were.
Floyd already started to slow up (though still better than everyone else to have gloves on), and Maidana came into the first fight as an awkward brawler not afraid of ****; the 2nd fight, after 12 rounds of time with him, Maidana was nowhere near as effective but he'd seen enough to try out a few new traps (like the one that got that right hand through).

The Alvarez fight was the last fight, tbh, where Floyd seemed to be all the way sharp.

I dont think so, i mean if it affected him mentally he wouldn't have rematch him straightaway. And he fought another 2/3 fights after that, at the end of the day he is human too and he has been slowing down significantly since his prime years, age does catch up with you.

The last fight i thought Floyd was in his physical prime was the Marquez fight. I know a lot is said about Marquez's weight, but Floyd was still very fast, very good reflexes, his legs still looked all there. Go and watch that fight compared to the later fights, the difference is clear to see.

The Maidana style was always going to be awkward for Floyd, he's just so unconventional. Floyd doesn't need to be in his prime to beat guys like Guerrero and Canelo, their styles are just too simple and conventional for Mayweather. Even Pacquiao to some extent is still a lot more straight forward than Maidana. Once Floyd could process your information, he could beat you with ring IQ but it's hard to process a guy like Maidana when even he didn't know what he was going to do at times, especially in the first fight.

              Nah

first fight was relatively competetive but floyd was already quite a bit past prime at that point and his movement was not what it used to be. Due to that he had to fight Maidana in the pocket which is Maidanas game but Floyd still beat him at his own game and I don't think it took too much out of him.

Mayweather almost lost the first fight but then managed to improve for the rematch and Maidana, not in the shape he was first time round, could not capitilise like he did in their first meeting. However, neither fight was a war and Mayweather shouldn't really be physically damaged to such an extent that the fight would change his career trajectory.

This wasn't an Ali/Frazier or the numerous battles between Pac/JMM.

Maybe not, but it's a tough night for a man approaching 40.

yup without special gloves Mayweather would be dead right now, literally or fucking handicap at the minimum.
