I've checked Floyd's business practices and he's not a long term planner. He lets a guy win a couple, then he gives him the test. At this rate Gervonta will get a title shot before Felix.

I was thinking that he's like a cross between Shawn Porter and Gary Russell Jr. With him being faster than Porter and a harder hitter than GRJ.

If they develop him properly he could be very special. I just hope his trainer and the TMT matchmakers are up to the task.

... he already is very special, imo... but he's still very young.

VERDEJO? Gimme a break! That bum aint beating no one easily, got exposed and outboxed by an unknown journeyman from Brazil.

That was a gift decision and yawl know it, he and his team also knew they lost given their expressions and body language after the fight. Guy couldn't even land more than three clean punches and a whole twelve round bout, couldn't make adjustments, couldn't cut off the ring, couldn't gage distance, couldn't land clean.

NO ONE needs a few years to prepare for Verdejo. He's an athlete with a good physique, but that's where it ends. No ring IQ, no tactical acumen, no punch variation, nothing!

Floyd expects everyone to live up to his standards. He won his first world title against Gennaro Hernandes at age 21, so I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to get Gervonta a title shot soon.

the lightweight division has been dormant for too long but it looks on the verge of exploding into life if the right fights get made within the next 12-24 months

He flashes great potential. But we've seen a lot of talented guys come and go and ultimately not fulfill their promise.

If his talents are harnessed and molded properly he could be an all time great some day. But if the people around him don't know how to build on his strengths and improve his weaknesses he will only reach a certain level then plateau.

Good, knowledgeable trainers are so important in boxing. Hopefully he has one.
