Mayweather vs. Margarito is doubtful, says Larry Merchant...

I was just listening to ringtalk.com weekly boxing radio show and Larry Merchant was the guest. Pedro Fernandez(host) asked Larry if Margarito/Mayweather will happen in August.

Larry Merchant said it's very doubtful that the fight will push through. He mentioned something about Mayweather leaving Top Rank and Bob Arum is trying to cash out on Mayweather by pitting him against Margarito.

Larry said that Arum is really confident on Margarito's chances against Floyd but Floyd is more likely to fight Dela Hoya instead of Margarito.

Bad news for the Margarito huggers, looks like Floyd will continue to duck him.

it's all good. Floyd don't need to fight this guy who is only a level above an unproven bum hyped. Floyd is on a diff level that should be lookin fo higher ranked and highly regarded opponents like Ricky Hatton, Cotto etc. Screw Margarito and his nuthugging groupies.

I know Margarito isnt on floyd's level, but he could put alot of pressure on Floyd and I think thats why everyone wants them to fight. I mean Judah had me thinking he had a chance in the early rounds. After I show that I know Floyd wont be undefeated much longer. Like Margarito or not its a dangerous fight for floyd. He has always been fighting carefully picked fighters.

i want to see margarito get some big paydays too while proving his worthyness.but he still has to break himself in to the general boxing public to cause pain to the top tier moneymakers
who see him as not much to claim for the pain. i hope the fringe moneymakers like mosley, judah, cotto, hook up.emmanuel augustus is another boxer who's in that posistion somewhat.man he'd be a great tuneup for hatton or junior witter. give the english a taste of a real american boxer. he'd blow their minds and maybe even get lucky. i think he could have his way against witter.

I think he was just talking about them not fighting in "August." I don't think he was sayin they would "never fight." Margarito deserves a shot at Mayweather reguardless. He probably wont do that bad against him either, those heavy long shots still sting you from behind your gloves, wich says he has more power than Hatton and Margarito has a better chin than Cotto.

Oscar has already made it clear to Floyd that he must leave Arum in order to get a possible fight with him...Floyd was also thinking of leaving Arum before in order to promote himself.
I really don't think Promoting is that hard when you have an established "Name" and have been in the buisness for a bit.

The only thing an established fighter needs is a good lawyer.

There has also been talks of a possible fight with Ricky Hatton later this year, if the Oscar fight doesn't come off.
