I watched a game once. Firstly, the atmosphere was so bad i almost fell asleep. Secondly, all the players did was sniff each others ball bags and drink coolade whilst making grunting noises.

I can't criticize the American fans for apparently not looking "tough" or creating an "atmosphere" because if you compare us (Britain) to lets say Turkish fans, Croatian fans, Italians..... we pale in comparison.
