Comments Thread For: Eubank Jr. Understands Why His Father Would Look To Save Him

Chris Eubank Junior understands why his father would want to pull him out of a fight if he was taking the same kind of punishment as Nick Blackwell - but as a "warrior" could never agree with the decision.

I don't want to see anyone permanently injured. Dangerous sport! Risk vs Reward. Great article!

Good to get an insight into Chris's feelings about having his father in his corner, I definitely see it as more of a positive than a negative, a lot of people just hate his dad and think Jr should get rid of him, but what son would do that? And he's doing well in his career, narrowly lost to Saunders who now has a world title and just brutalised two top domestic (UK) fighters, grabbing the British title in the process, also mandatory for the WBA regular belt.

Eubank talks very well and seems pretty grounded on the whole, his steely focus can sometimes be misinterpreted but he appears to be a good guy. Saunders is just a low-IQ lout. In the rematch, I reckon more people will get on Eubank's side than Saunders'. Not least because Jr is way more exciting to watch and goes for the knockout.

Welcome to the new generation of cowards. Expect most boxers to be saved in the future, no more TKOs/KOs. This sport will suck in about 10 years. Thankfully, UFCs future looks promising as it still stays true to its violent roots. UFC fighters are MANLIER than boxers by far.

So much has been made of what Eubank Snr said to his son in the corner about how he was trying to protect Blackwell.
I personally felt what he said was just tactical. "You're not going to take him out to the head, you're going to take him out to the body".
He had hit him with everything to the head, so its just boxing 101 to target the body.

Eubank snr didnt go to the ref.

You forgot the part where he tells his son that if he keeps punching him to the head "he's gonna get hurt", therefore go to the body.

Everyone's ignoring the first half of the speech where Eubank Sr said if you carry on beating like this he's going to get hurt. It was both tactical and compassionate to a lesser degree imo

                    Well, his exact words were...

"If the ref doesnt stop it then, i dont know what to tell you...but i will tell you this...if he doesnt stop it...1. he's getting hurt (sounded like that to me) and 2. if it goes to a decision...why isnt the ref stopping the fight? I dont get why. So maybe you shouldnt leave it to the ref. But you're not going to take him out to the face, you're going to take him out to the body...ok"

Just sounds tactical. Especially as he says "you shouldnt leave it to the ref" and mentions it could go to a decision. He is just thinking tactics.

I think if Blackwell wasnt put into a coma, there would be no talk of Eubank's speech.
