Comments Thread For: Arum: Chavez Jr - One of My Biggest Disappointments as Promoter

I think we all feel this way about Jr to some extent. However, given that he was born wealthy, that he really didn't have the need or natural hunger to fight out of a bad situation, he has accomplished quite a bit. He was world champion and in the biggest fight of his life against Martinez, he almost scored a historic KO.
He has a very decent record/resume too.
And that makes you wonder what he could have accomplished and how great he could have become had he taken this sport seriously. His father genes cannot be denied, Jr inherited the fighting ability of his father.Comment

Haymon spent a lot of $ and time to build up Chavez.
People forget, Chavez didn't have much amateur experience, he was god awful when he went pro. His father was broke and pimped his son out. Arum got them back on there feet.
He invested his own money to do low key ppvs for Chavez for years. They weren't making $ off these. But arum did it to build his name up, keep him active, and put $ in his pocket.
Chavez never cared though. Always did what he wanted, took advantage of everyone, especially he fans.
Left 2 career high paydays on the table to join Al Haymon and watch his career hit plummet. Haymon was never going to care about Chavez's career the way Arum did.Comment

Chavez Jr. Has skills. He just doesn't have the discipline or anyone to tell him know.bsht Roach trained him in his living room after moving around furnitureComment

Skills????? Hardly, no jab, sloppy footwork and no semblance of even basic defense. All Jr brought to the table was a decent punch and a good chin.Comment
