Does Canelo need GGG on his resume?

Canelo is proven, established and has a solid resume. Seriously, does he even need a GGG fight? It seems like GGG, 34, needs a world class fighter on his resume at this point. He's running out of time. Canelo has set his terms, and if GGG won't budge then **** him... Canelo doesn't need him. We've already seen how they've exposed their double standards with the latest Abel interviews posted here recently. Canelo shouldn't give them the satisfaction by naming GGG, and just put a media blanket around them, keep them in obscurity because whenever Canelo mentions GGG you know Abel is happy that his fighter is getting exposure by being mentioned alongside a big star. This isn't hate, it's fact: GGG is no star and will never be without a big name. Sorry for the rant, but tired of Abel and GGG's underhandedness, they're insulting us and they're not being called out enough for it.

    Yes he does.

If he's planning on fighting at MW, he needs to beat the best in the division.

I guess the anti-GGG circlejerk on boxingscene the past few days really got to you. All those "Abel" threads were from like 1 interview, chopped up into two dozen threads and nitpicked to hell.

I mean seriously, if you let a trainers mouth, who isn't even the damn fighter, prevent you from wanting to see one of the biggest fights in the sport, what does that say about you as a so called boxing fan? Not much of one. Roger Sr and Roach talked astronomical amount of trash about each other, that doesn't mean the fight shouldn't have happened.

Continue on with the circlejerk though, that's what this forum is for.

His resume is good now, but GGG on it would make it even better. In the grand scheme of things, yes. It will make a big difference if he won against GGG at 160 when looked at all time.

He does. When you look back at this era's middleweights the name that will come up is Gennady Golovkin. No Middleweight title is credible without going through him.

I'm not a Canelo fan. I like certain fighters, but I haven't been a full fledged fan of anyone since the RJJ, Naseem & Morales era.

Kind of, and it is by far the quickest path to legitimizing him above 154 (or 155).

Still Canelo is young, so he could eventually build a strong resume without Golovkin. People would always bring up Golovkin and not fighting him but he could still fashion a high end career but it would take a lot of work.

Red marks like that can be overcome, but they don't go away.

Yes he does if he wants to be a champion at 160. Everybody knows GGG is the man at 160. You can't seriously call yourself the real middleweight champ until you beat him. Canelo's only other route to greatness would be to give up his 160 pound title and return to 154 and win all the belts there and be a great champion at that weight. What he can't do is to try to keep the middleweight title and defend it at 155. If the WBC keeps it's word then Canelo must fight GGG at 160 pounds right after he more than likely KOs Khan or forfeit his title to GGG. Canelo has to reign as a world champion to be considered great. Jacobs and Saunders won't give him a shot at their title unless he agrees to fight them at 160. I have been a huge fan of Canelo since I first saw him when stopped Cotto's brother. He has to be a champion at 154 and fight at 154 or be a champion at 160 and fight at 160. He can't continue to be the champ at 160 and defend that title at 155. That won't work and nobody will think he is great if he continues to do this. Oscar should know better than to think they can get away with this. It only makes both himself and Canelo look bad.

He has to fight him or all that respect he's worked for goes down the drain. Hell, he has never fought at 160 and people are already saying he's ducking Lil G. Most people are already looking for a reason to hate him, most people already do hate him for next to nothing.

He can go on without Lil G and have a solid career but to silence alot of the critics (and haters) he needs to/should fight Lil G, hopefully it's at 160 but that ain't happening yet.

You'd be foolish (most of you are) to think Canelo is going to jump up to 160, a weight he's NEVER fought at, and that his first fight there will be Lil G.

Life doesn't work that way, get serious.
