Comments Thread For: Doctors To Bring Nick Blackwell Out Of Coma In Next 24 Hours

Nick Blackwell could be brought back to consciousness within the next 24 hours. The middleweight boxer, who was on the wrong end of a stoppage against Chris Eubank Jr. in their British title fight last weekend, is in an induced coma at a London hospital after collapsing in the ring after the clash on Saturday.

    Typo, surely:

Neurosurgeon Peter Hamlyn, meanwhile, has said that it is almost certain that Blackwell will lace up the gloves again.

    [...]

"But it is very unlikely that he will box again."

I'm not sure he should be allowed to fight again, even if he is cleared.

        Hopefully all goes well.

No, I meant the contradiction – the first sentance says he's almost certain to box again, whereas the second says the opposite; both by the same person.

The only other case I can think of where a fighter who suffered a brain bleed went on to box again was Czar Amonsot. Seems to still be going, and hasn't lost since that war with Katsidis. I doubt anyone's brain can ever be fully healthy after a bleed, though – I don't give the human body that much credit. :conf3:

I hope he makes a full recovery and stays away from the ring.
He's a handsome young man with a bright future but not with the gloves on.

Man, I'mma be praying hard for this dude before I go sleep. Praying that he wakes up, makes a full recovery, and lives a productive and successful life outside the ring. He was a champion, achieved domestic success, and left it all in the ring, he shouldn't have any regrets.

I really hope he can leave the ring behind.

I noticed the contradiction there. I'm no medical expert but surely after a brain bleed and swelling a doctor would advise you to leave the sport behind?

These things can't be played with Imo. He might be fine in a year and take another beating and the second time is worse. There is also the study's that show these things have lasting effects and can show up years later.

I'd also question this statement from the doctor as 2 hours ago Hennessy sports released a statement from his family:

"We would like to thank the public for their many messages of support for Nick, they are much appreciated. No official statements have been made either by ourselves or the hospital. We would like to clarify that, given the unsubstantiated rumours and statements in the media, we would like privacy while Nick receives treatment - and any statements will be released only by the family or the promoters Hennessy Sports.

                  That Doctor isn't treating him

Hope he pulls through, whether he fights again is irrelevant, at 25 he has a lot of life to look forward to. All the best Nick.
