Nice, this guy has some hope still

Each day in coma = 1 month of intense rehab

Also when doctors put you in a coma, its often better than falling into one

He will never box again, but at least will be able to live, unlike poor Prichard colon

No Doctor would speak in this country would speak to the press about a patient. They'd get struck off.

In this case, it's a doctor who formerly worked on Watson. Not involved with the Blackwell situation.

Yeah, that's the surgeon who treated Michael Watson giving his opinion, not one of the team treating Blackwell now.

I'm very pleased and relieved that Nick is going to be brought round soon and didn't need surgery. It was shocking to see him in so much trouble at the ringside, after seeming to be ok at first after the fight was stopped, apart from the swelling over his eye.

That brought back memories of Eubank vs Watson and Benn vs McClellan. If it wasn't for the improvements in post fight medical procedures introduced in the UK since then, Blackwell would be would no doubt be in the same boat as Watson and McClellan, or maybe worse.

It's a real pity Abduselamov wasn't looked after in the same way after being stopped by Perez. It disgusted me to read how he had to go outside and hail a cab to get to the hospital, then sit in a waiting room till he started vomiting and passed out before anybody checked him over.

The only other case I can think of where a fighter who suffered a brain bleed went on to box again was Czar Amonsot. Seems to still be going, and hasn't lost since that war with Katsidis. I doubt anyone's brain can ever be fully healthy after a bleed, though – I don't give the human body that much credit. :conf3:
Oh yeah right. I find it confusing too. Some say the referee should have stopped it, can't see why he didn't given the damage, it was pretty bad:

God, I pray that this isn't a Gerald McClellan type situation.

It's funny when you see these fights coming together, you don't even think about people actually getting hurt this seriously.

From what I've heard, Sr. Eubanks kept telling them to stop the fight and was telling his son not to keep beating on Blackwell's head.

This has to be some sick deja vu for him.

Strictly from a fan's perspective, I'm left wondering how bad the publicity fallout will be from this fight. Once in a blue moon we get a meaningful title fight on primetime free TV, watched by a nation of many who probably aren't all that familiar with boxing since the Eubank Sr./Benn/Bruno days, and then this happens – the worst possible outcome. A young lad gets beaten to a bloody pulp, for round after round, and gets stretched away to hospital in a coma. Yeesh... The "ban it!" folks will be having a field day.

It's the softie in me, but fights like this make me question why I watch the sport sometimes. Puts me right off. Then again, same can be said for the other dangerous sports I watch, namely F1 and ski jumping; in the latter we've already had a broken neck this year.

Hopefully he makes a full recovery, it would be good if Eubank Jnr visited him in hospital, I know they hated each other but after the fight they were talking, it would be a good gesture and would help win over some UK fans who have started to dislike him again since he left Sky

I hope he makes it through.
I wonder when the medical team will bring him back from the coma
Swelling should have receded by now
