Ask Kovalev if he thinks Beterbiev is a nobody...

As far as selling, I don't think Kovalev has been sell out worthy on his own yet anyway, right... His two biggest pay days, he owes them to GYM-Interbox and Montreal... Main Events / Duva can't sell anything on their own, and that's a pity...

Fonfara, Marcus Browne, Edwin Rodriguez and Thomas Williams with Haymon also.

A bunch of 10-25 guys they can throw at him once he's ready.

It's not a forgone conclusion but, from a business perspective, it'd be a chance that I see Michel and Beterbiev being willing to take:

-Beterbiev apparently beat Kovalev twice as an amateur
-Beterbiev looks like the truth as a pro fighter
-Beterbiev is bankable in Montreal and in Russia (two markets where Kovalev might be able to do business)
-Beterbiev is already 31 years of age (quickening his opportunity window)

I don't think Kovalev is as much better a fighter then Beterbiev as you think; both guys are basically the same age, except that Beterbiev kept things at the top amateur level 81kg/91kg rather than the "take whatever fight available" path Kovalev went on. Line up the fights that each guy has been in from June 2013 and the resumes aren't world's apart.

Beterbiev and Kovalev were supposed to be the matchup for Kovalev's "Russia homecoming", and I don't think that Beterbiev would've been all that muvh of an underdog for that fight.

Hell yeah! I really like Artur and expect great things from him. With Ward growing into LHW, Beterbiev's return, Shabransky's win over Gonzalez, LHW is looking very, very alive!

This is the same day Stevenson is fighting right? I guess he will be the co-feature then?

                Nothing, other than Stevenson's age.

He's 38 right now, and will likely be at least 39 (which he turns in September) by the time a big fight with Beterbiev materializes...if it ever does.

                  And if he doesn't?
People always bring up Stevenson's age, yet refuse to acknowledge that he's only been 'throwing hands', even as an amateur, since 2004. He had less than 50 fights as an amateur. You add that he's had all of 28 pro fights (amounting to less than 125 actual in-ring rounds so far), started fighting late, and has legit one-punch power in that left hand and Stevenson has far more time left then you want to acknowledge. Bernard Hopkins debuted at 23 years old, and fought (beating world level opposition) until he was 50.

Stevenson, after not really taking an extended beating ever, could easily be fighting at the top level for the next 2-4 years without much issue.

In terms of Beterbiev, if he doesn't beat Kovalev ... then he doesn't beat Kovalev, lol; he'd still be 9-1, based out of one of the truly monster boxing markets, tied in with a camp that could 1)rebuild his stature in the eyes of his home market and 2)put him in with the variety of competition to gird up his skills for his next shot at a title.

Stevenson is due to return in July, Beterbiev in June.

The question was asked in the context of Stevenson-Beterbiev, since you were talking about a "massive mega event in Montreal".

How massive that fight is in Montreal, you probably konw more than I do.

Right now, there would be interest in the fight.

But if Beterbiev lost to Kovalev and had to be rebuilt, the fight would lose luster and it would take time to rebuild Beterbiev.

Time a 38 year old, or older, usually doesn't have in boxing.

Maybe he could continue beating the Karpency's of the world without much issue.

He might have a tougher time with Alvarez...and if he loses a fight like that he may not get a big fight after.
