I think the chances of Ward KO but even more so of Kovalev UD are being underrated. Kovalev could reasonably likely win a UD fighting similar to how he did against Hopkins. Piling up points and landing some big punches against a guy who refuses to go down but who refuses to totally open up either.

In fact, I think Kovalev UD is more likely than Kovalev KO in my opinion. Ward has almost never appeared to be hurt in a fight, and at this level of the game KOs aren't especially probable.

Ward also hasn't spent that much time at LH, and Kovalev is a little more special than most when it comes to KOs. Though, I'm an idiot, so don't take my word for it.

lets not be too hard on ward after he loses

day of the fight has arrived and i cant wait for it. lets hope this fight delivers. when any fighter loses there 0 they get a lot of criticism, but lets remember that ward is still a very good fighter, dont want everyone throwing him on the scrap heap after the fight. although his matchmaking has been absolutely pathetic in the past 5 years, even to a point where one of his proposed mismatches got blocked, he has followed through with his promise to fight kovalev, provided he doesnt pull out in the last few hours. so lets give ward some credit, it takes two to tango.

Ward is indeed the greatest 168 pounder of all time. Calzaghe's argument is that he beat two of Ward's best wins first (Kessler-Bika), and he also beat Eubank. Zags' wins over also B-Hop & RJJ eclipse what Ward has done, but they were at 175 and technically don't count on the 168 resume.

Ward's single best win, Froch, had been previously soundly outboxed by Andre Dirrell (like 10-2 or 9-3 IMO), Kessler, and Jermain Taylor (before scoring the heroic stoppage with 12 seconds left on the clock). Zags never got to face Froch but that would've been a sick fight.

Ward-Kovalev is as close as the odds suggest, with Ward the slight betting favorite. I'm still going Kovalev by SD 7-5, 7-5, 5-7.
