Let's not be fanboys and just enjoy the fight.

It absolutely was a great fight and I could live with a split, but Kovalev was in control and he could have turned it up a notch and we will see how Ward responds to that in the rematch.

I can't consider Ward the clear cut p4p king until he survives another 12 with Kovalev

A draw is not possible with 1KD. Unless you score a round 10-8 without a KD.

          • Some stuff accurate...........

Ward will come out with a Mayweather mentality, knowing if he exchanges he likely tastes the canvas at some point. He has little success as Kovalev still lands hard shots and Wards pot shot strategy isn't successful. Ward opens up around the eighth round, gets dropped or knocked out late, and loses. [B][I][B]Will be close on the cards even with one knockdown, but Ward will look bad and lose, again possibly getting a gift decision, getting credit for many "scoring" shots.

            • Ward's gonna win a wide decision in a rematch.

                • I'm a Ward fan but I had the fight a draw. I judge fights based on the old standard that a challenger has to really beat up the champ to take the belts. Close fight but no way did Ward dominate Kov......

                    • I just got back home, thought I'd share some thoughts before reading what everyone else has been saying. For one, Hooker got schooled no question wtf were those cards. For two, I also thought Ward-Kovalev went 114-113 for Ward differing with Lederman on rounds 9,12 and either round 3 or 4.

But man, what an incredible fight we all just witnessed. Kovalev almost blew the dude out in the first couple of rounds but even afterwards continually demonstrated that he is an A-level boxer as well as an A-level puncher whose jabs could put almost anyone away. And what an unprecedented effort from Ward to come back and make the fight debatable when it appeared from the start that he was totally overmatched.

Rarely do we see fights between these quality of opponents in their primes, but even more rarely do they turn out to be great to watch as well. to both Kovalev and Ward, who are the top 2 P4P fighters as far as I'm concerned.

Gotta be crazy not to want the rematch of this one
