In reality, Blackwell has never touched the canvas in his career and known to be tough. He was taking a lot of shots but he was always fighting back and never looked completely out of the fight. So you can understand why it wasn't stopped earlier.
I understand, I just thought there was a point where this fight could have been stopped, I hate seeing or hearing fighters getting hurt. Nick is an experienced traveller/fighter but for me he took too many punches even when he was covered up, getting hit with 6/7 punches and coming back with one then saying 'come on' to your opponent is a bad sign in my opinion, l definitely don't blame the ref but I thought his corner should have stopped the fight earlier. He wasn't going to win that fight and was getting hit with every uppercut that shook his brains. I really hope he recovers from this.

Yeah, I'm actually surprised Gary Lockett didn't stop it. He's usually on the ball in that aspect. I've seen him pull his fighters out for less than that Blackwell took. I think he might have had too much faith in Blackwell's toughness.

I'm not sure where the ref could have stopped it personally. I don't think at any point you could say he wasn't intelligently defending himself. Yes there was a couple of times he was on the ropes covering up, but that in itself isn't enough of a reason to stop a fight and it in those two moments it didn't seem like many shots were actually getting through or that Blackwell was badly hurt.

Aside from facial damage he didn't really show much sign of being hurt other than not offering much offense in the later rounds perhaps.

It's easy to say afterwards that he took too much but I don't think many people if they're honest would say they were calling for it to be stopped at the time. Both times I thought it was close but that it wasn't quite enough to stop it. Blackwell was doing just enough to stay in the fight.

Would a standing eight count have made a difference if pro boxing had them? It would have given the ref the opportunity to give Blackwell a chance to recover without requiring it to be a fight ending decision.

Anyway it's very sad news and I hope he makes a full recovery.

Eubank family are good at uppercuts, first Michael Watson and now Blackwell. Idoint think uppercuts agree with the brain. But I fonyt think the ref could have stopped earlier as he didn't know he had a bkleed and would essentially be stoppoingit for a bleeding ng nose.

Hope he makes gfull recovery but his career is over now isn't it?

I can't really blame the referee, Blackwell is very tough-maybe too tough for his own good.

As for Eubanks he did his job, he looks decent against a punching bag but I still believe he lacks the real skills and has a tendency to throw his combinations and the admire his work, taking a walk for the rest of the round.

He is a carbon copy of his father.

Senior is going to sell him as the bad guy, the animal blah, blah, blah.

It could work either way to be honest, both Blackwell and Watson were very popular, genuinely nice guys.

Both Eubanks are a pair of Kuntz IMO.

Why do you think Eubank is on EPO, the show was a disgrace and shows that even referee will do everything to make him lose the fight should have been stopped long time. Referee should be sued if he is damaged in any way.

The referee is there to protect the fighters he did not do that with Blackwell who everybody know was tough as nail and needs to protected from being a punchbag

                      The commentators didn't help.

They were clearly supporting Blackwell, Woodhall somehow had Eubank only two points ahead after 7 rounds (I had it 7-0 Eubank, clearly).

They were getting overly excited if Blackwell landed a jab and then talking about his toughness while he was getting hammered, ignoring what Eubank was doing for the most part- had they called the fight in an unbiased manner, people would have had no problem with the stoppage in round 7.
